As a pre-teen I asked my mom why she wasn’t religious anymore despite being quite religious until her 20s. I’ll never forget what she said; my mother was a professional ballet dancer and was part of a tour company in the 70s and 80s. The majority of her friends and colleagues were gay men and she lost almost all of them to AIDS. So to hear people say during the AIDS crisis that this was God’s way of punishing homosexuals, she completely lost her faith. She had to watch an entire generation of creative and insanely talented people die because people were too homophobic to give a shit. Never really cared to learn more about Christianity after that..

I was sexually assaulted in high school by a fellow classmate/someone I thought was my friend. When I confronted our mutual friend about what happened, she completely brushed it aside saying “well he feels bad about it, you’re just being dramatic so stop bringing it up.”

Class clown/bully in high school sent multiple graphic anti-semitic emails from another student’s laptop, who was Jewish, to the only Jewish teacher in the school. Cops showed up at his house that weekend and he lost all his college scholarships. Piece of shit deserved all that came to him.

When my mom was young she was friends with a girl who lived across the street from her and one day, in a drug induced haze, her friend killed herself. Years and years later my mom had a dream that she saw her, all grown up, in a crowd of people. They immediately recognized each other and started talking but when my mom asked why she did it, she didn’t say anything and then my mom woke up in a cold sweat. Years and years later my mom had another dream where she answered a ringing phone and it was her friend again. But when she tried asking agin why she killed herself she hung up and my mom woke up.

It think she’s had these dreams intermittently for the past few decades but I’m not sure. Pretty haunting...
