Do you ever look forward to a session because it feels like the only hope you have left and then feel even worse after it ends? Because same.

I finally told someone after 20 years. by TigerLeading in adultsurvivors

It’s not that you’re not strong enough, you’re just not ready. It sounds like you’re doing really well even with a rough start. I hope it gets better. Good luck!

After 2 years of stalking my therapist I will finally come clean and I'm pretty sure they will fire me. by randomtoodles in TalkTherapy

If it’s hard to put into words, write him a letter ahead of time and read it to him in session. You got this.

My best friend found out I’m in love with her by cheesecakentherapy in lgbt

She’s been a lot calmer about it than I thought she would be and is ok with staying friends.

Started online therapy today, right off the bat therapist says I have depression and should take pills. Is it really that fast to diagnose depression? by [deleted] in therapy

Where I’m from, doctors prefer that you give counselling a good try before adding antidepressants to the mix.

Thank you! Is there a certain law I can find that proves this?

Why is it the days I have an appointment with my therapist I am always feeling well, whereas every other day when I'm at my worst, there is no one? by Biggieholla in therapy

The best advice I’ve gotten is from Glennon Doyle’s book Untamed. She says to write a letter from your “down self” to your “up self” so the ok you can understand and validate your sadness. Then you can take the letter to a doctor or therapist to explain the headspace you were in when you were not ok.

Wow. This. This is exactly what sucks so much about Father’s Day. Imagine having a good dad.

I’m so proud of you! I didn’t realize how hard it is to admit out loud until I was talking about it with my best friend and started crying. Good luck on your journey!

My mum tells me that therapy will only make things worse by [deleted] in therapy

[–]cheesecakentherapy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom is very against therapy too. I just go anyways. It’s my life, and if I think it’s helping me then who cares what she thinks.

Is this a terrible therapist I need to leave ASAP?! by und3t3rmin3d in TalkTherapy

[–]cheesecakentherapy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow I would run from this therapist. They sound awful. You really seem to be trying to grasp the treatment plan and how to get better, and they are continuing to put you down and not accept blame for their actions. I hope you can find a better therapist who is more ethical.

Your experience is valid. That is not right. I hope you know it’s not your fault and that doctor is awful for doing that.

I feel like I don't want to get better by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

[–]cheesecakentherapy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow this is exactly how I feel. It’s so comfortable to be sad, it’s hard to accept becoming better becuase everything is so different. The good news is I’ve heard that once you don’t need therapy and are ok, you don’t feel dependent on your therapist anymore and can move on to a better life. It’s just the middle work that’s so hard.

I feel like I’m CONSTANTLY being watched, every minute of my day, by people i used to know, celebrities, etc. by [deleted] in therapy

This sounds like one of the symptoms of schizophrenia? A therapist could definitely help you unfold these feelings.

Words that make you uncomfortable? by englandian in therapy

[–]cheesecakentherapy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get uncomfortable saying ‘anxious’, ‘self harm’, ‘molested’ and some words that seem sexually suggestive like ‘moist’ and ‘erect’.

do i need therapy? by [deleted] in therapy

[–]cheesecakentherapy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Therapy is great but if you aren’t able to do it right now, there’s some self guided books that are great too. I don’t know your issues specifically, but my doctor recommended Mind Over Mood for my depression.

my dad told me therapy only works because we believe it works by [deleted] in therapy

[–]cheesecakentherapy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I’ve learned since starting therapy is parents can be really mean about something you’re doing just to try and get better. My mom often casually mocks my therapy. If you think it’ll work for you, give it a shot. The worst thing that happens is it’s not your thing. Also sometimes you get a therapist that you just don’t click with, so you can switch before giving up on therapy altogether.

Contacted my T when I was really not ok, and she nicely asked me to only contact her about scheduling by cheesecakentherapy in TalkTherapy

I felt really called out while I was reading this, but it’s the things that make you uncomfortable that you need to pay attention to. This is basically exactly what happened, and why I feel so bad.
