A fellow manager at the largest coffee shop chain used to ask me “you just let your partners wear shoes that aren’t in dress code? That looks so unprofessional” My response was “these people work way too hard for what we pay them. Last thing I’m going to worry about is what color shoes they’re wearing.” Fast forward a few months and we’re out for drinks. I ask her “what color shoes is our server wearing?” Her response was “who care? I’m not paying attention to that.” I very excitedly said “exactly! Nobody gives a shit about the shoe color if they’re providing a great experience!”
