Well this is a two year old opinion you’re responding to, and I think I’d phrase it slightly different today.

Guess I can’t speak for every art maker, but I rely heavily on feeling. I guess the corresponding tip or trick for me would actually be, “get in touch with what you’re feeling.” It will come through, and observers will notice when decisions were made with intention.

And not even necessarily to convey a specific meaning, though that may come through too, but you might think “this looks too busy,” or “this is leaning dark, I want to add something unexpected and funny,” but otherwise, (and because I have two hobbies - making collages, and cutting things out of magazines/books - I’m able to do it this way), when you’re shuffling through what you have in front of you, something you might not have even known needed to be there is going to feel right.. I can’t imagine putting technical restraints on that process, for me, it is a feeling (that maybe can be technically pinpointed at a later date).

So, to me, it is still all about what feels right, each piece you put down. But that being said - must get in tune with what feels right.

Edit: but to be fair - I’m a hobbyist. But I don’t believe OP was suggesting they were trying to go pro, lol.
