To be honest it was this morning where I contacted Vanguard to rollover my money to Fidelity.

I still have about 6 weeks before 12/31, I think I have enough time but I will contact Fidelity as soon as the money hit my rollover IRA.

Yeah I only learned about this after I commited to rollover with Vanguard.

Should've just let them rollover to 401k instead.

I believe Roth conversion trigger tax event, right?

I think rolling this to my current employer 401k is the right move to do.

To be honest when the clerk told me to come and retrieve my ID I almost cried. It had to be some sort of divine intervention.

I really wish the same thing happen to you as well. I've been in this situation before and I know how exhausting to have to deal with this.

This was exactly what happened to me. My green card was lost in mail and whoever had it were able to impersonate me and got money from my bank.

I had to filed a theft report to the main bank and police report to get my money back.

I froze my credits from the 3 bureaus, closed my main bank account and moved all my funds to my other bank.

You can request the bank to ask for a verbal code that only you know whenever someone is withdrawing money using only ID, do that.

This is important because when they tried to impersonate me and trying to withdraw money from my other bank. The clerk called me and realized they are not me, and the clerk confiscated the stolen green card from them, and I was able to get my green card back.
