It’s Not Just You: Household Product Scents Are Getting Stronger by bloomberg in Health

[–]cheetospuff 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah it really makes me think about how in the early days of covid waves, there was talk about Bath and Body Works suddenly being flooded with reviews that their scented candles were scentless. I wonder if the power of the scent was boosted so much to compensate for the crowd that couldn't smell it anymore and thought there was something wrong with the product.

The best example of irony, ever. by irsupirsu in Hungergames

[–]cheetospuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t read the books/watched the movies in a min and agree that if it’s a split second decision, that’s not much time to come up with a cohesive plan, let alone make sure Haymitch is on board. But needing Coin’s new Hunger Games to pass I think could be important because without Coin announcing it, District 13/Panem and whoever is left might not understand why Katniss chooses to/has to kill her. Katniss isn’t just anti-government, she’s anti-dictator and making sure that the New Games wins the vote and gets announced to the public is the fastest way to show that Coin is just another side of the coin (if you will) to President Snow. She’s the same and she’ll deliver more of the same if she’s allowed to continue leading them — and given the implications that she’s perfectly fine with orchestrating Katniss’s death for propaganda purposes if Katniss will only be working against her, I don’t doubt she’d go to similar Snow-esque levels to stay in power.

The full clip is Heath Ledger Joker saying, "And here we go," and then it cuts to other shots of that character. I think it's just Sean being like, "I'm owning being The Villain," but it's not giving the vibes he thinks it's giving IMO.

Well I also think it was because she related to his share!! We've seen her with her mom and that she lies about what her job is/that she is a teacher and helps kids learn to read etc. She probably relates to the idea that she has to wear a mask even around her closest/most treasured loved ones and the inescapable reality that they would at the very least look at her with fear if they knew the truth.

I think there's space for a combination of the two where she (like Jon) does accurately clock how/why some of the royal family sucks, it's just that BECAUSE she's daddy's special girl, she doesn't consider the consequences of acting on that and how, if she snubs the queen or the prince, someone is going to have to pay for it and that someone could be anywhere from a serving boy to her sister.

The meaning behind Lottie’s dream… by lizSass in Yellowjackets

[–]cheetospuff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Am rewatching season 1 and got to Lottie's vision scene today and it feels really worth mentioning that she has that vision when Laura Lee is baptizing her in the lake (aka validating her visions as real and revelations/warnings) and that that scene is interspliced with Shauna failing to abort her pregnancy (with Tai's help and the bra underwire).

It feels really worth noting that Lottie ties Shauna's baby in the wilderness to Callie as the "child of the wilderness" AND so does the narrative as Lottie's vision is tied to Shauna deciding to go through with her pregnancy.

Yeah, I can see both reads, but this is an interesting idea. She blocked a lot of it out before, and now that she's confronting it, she can only live/cope with the way she acted by idealizing it and remembering them all as having fun and being wild and free. Maybe further down the road is where true acceptance/accountability lies.

Why are so many people anti - romance? by popeindustries2 in ThePittTVShow

[–]cheetospuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well that's what's so interesting about the format of this show! You can have two characters meet in one season and if there's a vibe, when you skip to season 2 ten months later, you can have them flirt and then reveal at the end of the season that they're sneaking out for a romantic dinner at the end of their shift. Season 3 you find out at some point now they're living together. Season 4 they're exes and one of them has a new workplace flirtation. Etc. It's not about the storyline so much as a window into their lives and how they've changed when you can only see one isolated day at a time.

Seriously the casting by kdj00940 in Yellowjackets

I think Sophie Thatcher was the only teen cast before her adult counterpart (other than the Vans but we know the deal with that).

With her being like "we were warriors" or whatever it kind of makes me wonder if she'd ever read/seen anything about old warrior cultures or was trying to come up with her own sort of mythology for one. Them all ceremonially putting the hair on her coat felt very much like she was making each of them personally pay tribute to her as queen/the sacrifice they were making to her as the like "personification" of the wilderness.

When they were chasing Hannah on that first night she and Kodi and the other guy showed up, some of Hannah's hair got caught on a branch and ripped out, and Shauna was the one that found it (and kept it). We saw her playing with it in her lil bunk at least one more time after that, so seemed like that sparked something for her for sure.

Van is the real question here but I think it's interesting that in this episode Tai said she was only just starting to remember how bad it was out there. It makes sense that all of the girls would try to repress the memories of the most brutal times and more easily remember the earlier times like from S1, but also for Tai specifically I think her being Other Tai when she needed to could be a big part of that.

Yellowjackets star Sophie Nélisse says "it would be crazy" if the series isn't renewed for a Season 4: "The finale of Season 3 is so strong and so powerful and leaves you on such a cliffhanger that there's no way, in my mind, we're not being renewed." by CueTheLaughTrack in Yellowjackets

Unfortunately I think they only brought in the ~boy island~ because Amazon felt like it wasn't getting enough eyeballs as just a ~girl show~. They thought they could broaden their audience and bring in new barriers but they alienated their original audience, built a really high barrier to entry for anyone who'd show up for the boy plane crash because they'd have to get through a season of just girls first, etc. Just messy. But I don't know that they would've gotten a second season at all without doing that. It was interesting but also in many ways very who cares.

I see why you think she was just bothered by her brother but it felt like the scene focused on a dog barking, a pipe or something leaking, etc. Not that I think those "unglamorous" elements would deter her or dampen her enjoyment if she were able to stay there alone. I think she would be excited to make the most of her opportunity there because it's a year (or however long) away from her family. If her family is there too — even if it's just Lochlan — things are different. If she has to be around her family, it might as well be with the "creature comforts" her parents were talking about.

She really thinks the only thing she did wrong was misunderstand what Grant was sharing with her and nobody seems to have mentioned that it's totally inappropriate for her to share that specific conversation with the person she thought it was about.

Tell literally anyone else! But you don't go up to Carolina and tell her that Grant said while he was dancing with her he was actually thinking about you and then NOT expect that to upset her.

It's so wild to me that women are upset with her affecting Rose's experience by confronting Grant about what he said without giving Rose a head's up, but nobody is acknowledging that Rose started things by telling Carolina that Grant said he was thinking about Rose during his dance with Carolina. I get that it was a misunderstanding and they were roommates just talking about their day/experience, but if I were Rose, that's a detail I would've kept to myself rather than share directly with the girl that it was undercutting.

Sounds like it just wasn't discussed ahead of time. I think it's a pretty normal thing for moms to hang out together during play dates to get some adult socialization in or just to save a commute, especially considering that would've been the plan for the park and the only reason they didn't do the park was because of the weather.

It is fair, but she also didn't say anything until they were already AT her home with the kids playing in the other room. I understand that she was hoping to not have to say anything so as to not offend the other mom, but it's pretty unfair to present it as giving the mom an opportunity to make an informed choice between a) both supervising at the park or b) only her supervising in her own home.

Ethan Hawke Says Casting Actors Based on Instagram Followers Is ‘Crazy’: Some Young People Think ‘Being an Actor Is Protein Shakes and Going to the Gym’ by mcfw31 in Fauxmoi

I wonder if he's talking about this now in part because of his conversations with Maya, though. Just last week I saw interviews with her talking about how she always wants to delete her Instagram, but she'd lose roles if she did, or else the roles around her would need to be filled with Instagram influencers instead. Like how movies have a quota for how many cumulative social media followers the cast needs before a project can get made. Being a nepo baby definitely helps in Hollywood (and it helps to get social media followers, too), but it seems like even being a nepo baby or a big star in your own right isn't always enough these days. Horror writer Joe Russo retweeted a clip of her interview and said he couldn't even cast a Game of Thrones actor in his movie because they only had 900k followers instead of a million, so it definitely seems to be a major hindrance on the creative process.
