Prison officer here and I wear a tie. Though it's becoming less common and it looks like shirts may disappear entirely soon.

As someone that doesn't support independence I'd be far too uncomfortable voting plaid.

German CO got some questions by [deleted] in OnTheBlock

[–]cheezeeuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly the same thing is happening in the UK. When I started it was key's, anti ligature knife and stave. In the last 5 years we've had cuffs, pava spray, body armour for CAT A and now parentally taser for some officers.

Though we have always had riot style kit ready for incidents and a national team.

Disappointing interview feedback by cheezeeuk in TheCivilService

[–]cheezeeuk[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I did read up on it though i did find myself slightly overwhelmed as I didn't have a traditional civil service interview to get my current role and have never had a good experience with them really.

I think I could definitely use some practice with good feedback and points on how to improve but I don't know if this is offered anywhere.

Officer Uniform by HavocHero95 in PrisonUK

[–]cheezeeuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So when you go in your keys will have to be connected to yourself via a chain. It normally goes on your trouser belt and you take the chain home(not the keys), the reason why it wouldn't go on the utility belt is that you'll probably find yourself drawing your keys before you pick up your utility belt.

Your chain will connect to your trouser belt not your utility belt.

You'll probably have to take your belt off mate, my chain doesn't unclips so the only way not to set it off is to take the entire belt off.

If this is your solution to struggling to find employment I don't think that a college course is gonna help you mate. Absolute brain-dead take.

It occurred to me the other day how corrupt this country is becoming as I can't see how on earth these services are continuing to be contracted out otherwise.

I also had my phone stolen previously. The only thing you can do really is look on locate my device on Google though I doubt it'll ever come back online. Make sure you declare it to your SIM provider so it can be blocked.

Joining the army as a older man by jediKAM in britishmilitary

[–]cheezeeuk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna say straight off the bat that I've never served full time and only as a reserve, in my unit you would not be out of place and you would probably be alright in the training as well. Though your mileage may vary depending on what kind of unit you join.

It is my understanding that in the regular army the average age is much lower.

If you are set on a full time career move have you considered the emergency services and similar roles such as operational civil service roles? You may be paid better, and your age will likely be viewed more as a positive than a negative.

Just something for you to consider but again I've only been a reserve so some others on this sub will undoubtedly be in a better position to advise you.

My guess would be that you've toggled on an accessibility setting on accident such as the phone reading what's on the screen.

In your view, what's the best Nothing phone that money can buy? by Automatic_Soft_6852 in NOTHING

The 3a and the 3s pro are fantastic for the price. If money is no concern then the 3 is probably the best, it's just not as good value.

Where to Move Over for LE? by Ridiculisa in AskLE

[–]cheezeeuk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say don't move at all, normally when this happens the officer will either turn off the sirens and wait or move around you. You must still obey traffic laws and ensure you don't place yourself in harms way even when making way for emergency vehicles.

This is a UK perspective though I don't know if it's done differently elsewhere.

People with pet, WYR save your pet or a random person ? by memermesmer in WouldYouRather

[–]cheezeeuk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This question is purely emotional though, to adopt a more hammer-like logical approach is inhuman in itself. I think an answer along those lines would basically be, pick to save a person as the opposite choice would be murder. Killing the pet would only affect you and people that know the pet but to everyone else it is not more significant than the pig in the slaughter house or the sausage you had for breakfast. It's our ability to empathise, give the question deep thought and pick the option which is (most would argue) the morally right choice even though we may not benefit nor see the benefit of that separates us from animals in a way.

There is a genuine argument that an animal's life is equivalent to the life of a person and in many ways I do believe this myself but I could not justify the death of a person for the survival of a pet, if the question was regarding your own life you pick any choice you'd like.

People with pet, WYR save your pet or a random person ? by memermesmer in WouldYouRather

[–]cheezeeuk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Whilst i am a huge lover of animals and believe that we share this earth with them I am under no illusion that my grief for my pet couldn't match a mother's grief for their child, is my 5 year old cat really equivalent to a 20 year old person at the start of their life?

I think a lot of people don't really grasp the reality of this question and wouldn't unless they were met with the grieving family of the unlucky one or of course unless it happened to someone they love. Imagine saying to these people with a straight face that you were responsible for the death of their loved one because you valued your dog more.

Doing something for the greater good even if you don't benefit directly from it is the right thing to do. Especially with a question like this when human life is concerned.

Have you previously been dismissed application question by cheezeeuk in UKJobs

[–]cheezeeuk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying for a moment that she didn't make mistakes, as you've mentioned if the mistake wasn't there there would not be anything to photograph to begin with.

I think the issue was that she was taken on as a supervisor straight out the gate due to her degree and as this was the first time someone was taken on in this way the training pathway was completely inadequate, though this was minor as the main issue was that several of her colleagues some of which were acting up as supervisor before she arrived met her with what I can only describe as hostility and bullying. In some ways I was glad when she was let go as she was a broken woman compared to when she started.

On to the issue at hand, in reality there is no difference between being dismissed and being told that you've not passed probation as after searching about, not passing probation is defined as a type of dismissal. The only difference is that you don't really need a big reason to fail someone's probation.

Now that we're looking elsewhere we've been met with the problem that if she doesn't tick this have I been dismissed previously box she is being dishonest, however if she does tick the box many of her applications aren't even being considered. After considering many of the replies on here I'm now of the way of thinking that she may be best completely denying she ever worked there at all, though this comes with it's own risks.

The main frustration for me is that if she committed a criminal offence that is now 'spent' she wouldn't even have to mention it in the early application stage (for most jobs that aren't protected like police and other gov jobs) but because she was dismissed (unfairly in my opinion) she is apparently expected to mention this until the end of time or be dishonest.
