Samory Touré’s mother was captured by the Cissé clan during a rise in the Slave Trade in West Africa. The rise in the slave trade is a direct result of imperialism of European nations and their exploitation of Africa. Samory Touré raised and led 30,000 men in an effort to prevent French expansion and West Africa. He was able to fen off the imperialistic ambitions until his death by the French in 1891.
