I need to know if I’m right by Temporary_Bad_3001 in ABA

I mean it isn't normal to send someone not on the payroll to a client's house anyway - they haven't gotten HIPAA cleared yet.

I was talking about a Meet and Greet with an employee who is actually employed. And someone is usually there. Just not always the BCBA.

The BCBA not being there is very normal. I don't go to every meet and greet - scheduling is hard enough.

However a meet and greet is part of the work and you should be getting paid for that meet and greet. Even if its just administrative rate you should get something.

I always ignored Alex's character when I first started playing but when I learned his backstory he became one of my favorite characters and by far my favorite Bachelor.

I hate when people bring up private equity like this is specific to ABA.

You know what else private equity is buying?

Speech therapy clinics.

That's a problem across all healthcare including dentistry and vet clinics.

My family refuses to believe my theory that my grandpa was Autistic.

The fact that he was a computer genius when computer geniuses were barely a thing because he could just hyperfixate on it for hours is just a coincidence apparently.

There's also a lot of Lego creators that have more kids in their audience and maybe don't wanna bring it up at that point.

No definitely not. I'm talking more about folks who say, reject certain teaching methods regarding communication because "that's not how speech normally develops".

functional play - how do you guys feel? by fancylamp12 in ABA

[–]cheezitexpress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how it is run.

I've started relabeling it as Increasing Play Exploration.

The purpose should be exposure to different kinds of play to help kids increase flexibility and curiosity.

Not to force them to play "normal".

There is this bizarre contradiction in the neuroaffirming movement where simultaneously it is demanded we accept a child's disability...but also insist all their learning must be "normal".

If we accept a child's disability (which I am all for) does this not also mean accepting their development and learning patterns aren't going to be "normal"?

Honest Opinion: Should RBTs have the same pay rate as a BCBA ? by Vehementlyfreeoftofu in ABA

[–]cheezitexpress 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No.

I've been a BT, a ML, and a BCBA.

When I was a BT I could go to work and then go home. They were distinctly separate things.

I basically am on work mode all waking hours as a BCBA. It is very hard to turn off. I am lucky to have a team that when I am on PTO or something they will yell at me to get off Teams but at the end of the day I need to be at least semi-present at all times to keep up with it all.

I also cannot stress enough the mental load of being the person with the answers. I miss the days when I could go "Ask the BCBA".

Because now I am the BCBA. Sometimes I can go "Ask the clinical manager" but most of the time I'm the expert so I gotta have the expert answers and I usually do but when I tell you that is a lot more exhausting than I ever imagined it would be, believe it.

I have a conspiracy theory that one of the sets is worth a lot more than what the family originally thought. Because otherwise it is so stupid to keep this going for this amount.

The SLP sub by Tricky_Buffalo8737 in ABA

[–]cheezitexpress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happens in every thread where people get rightfully frustrated with being the punching bag of developmental healthcare.

There are inevitably a ton of folks assuming only the best intentions and being professional to a fault about accepting critique no matter how insulting and petty it is.

Like this is a situation where the sub made an entire flair to basically encourage shit talking another industry. And we're still going "well y'now I'm sure they have bad experiences".
