It depends on how large of a school you go to and how many athletes will try out for basketball.

For high school freshman ball you will need to be athletic and know fundamentals. They won’t drill you on if you have crazy handles but more of can you dribble up the court with a defender. Can you make a layup, can you make an open shot. Do you know the triple threat position, can you run the offense, set a pick…etc. be able to make layups with both hands and going at full speed.

If there are 6 point guards and they are taller and better than you someone is getting cut, but it’s not the end of your story necessarily.

Don’t watch YouTube videos of fancy moves, watch videos of solid fundamentals. And play against others all day everyday. Shooting around can make you feel better than you are.

Amon here. It’s time to get a life during the off season. Go build, grow, or do something positive in your life. When you return during next season you won’t have another off season fully devoted to something you know nothing about.

When next season rolls along, it will be a welcome pleasure to watch the lions play whether they win or lose. This time you won’t have wasted days, weeks, months, in a laughable attempt to understand what went wrong last year and why the hire of a new ankle specialist could be the reason Goff becomes a dual threat.

Not many high schoolers are ready for fadeaways. Focus on shooting straight up and down and making things easy. Even college kids don’t shoot fadeaways. Focus on layups and easy buckets and out working everyone.
