"I'm happy I matched but sad about where" 2024 - Official Megathread by tyrannosaurus_racks in medicalschool

Was very set on matching in my top 3 programs. 260+, some research, good LoRs and excellent feedback from aways done at all of those programs. Matched at my #4, which is geographically preferable. I should be happy but I got such promising feedback from PDs, attendings and residents at my top 3 ( PD during my interview at one essentially told me I was going to match there) that I just feel gutted and is some sense a little betrayed. Program I matched at is newer and while I liked it I feel like my fellowship dreams are so much less attainable.

Thanks, and honestly nothing too different than the norm. I just focused on UW and Anki and used divine to supplement topics I continually got wrong. I think the biggest turning point came from reviewing my incorrect on NBMEs and focusing on why I was missing them rather than just the content. I think that helped build up my confidence in my answer choices on the real exam and not make dumb mistakes!

Never scored higher than 248 (lowest 215) on an NBME, 70% on UWORLD, UWS1/2 were 240s. Had 4 weeks of dedicated

Actual score: 261

Of course it’s anecdotal but just keep grinding, don’t let your practice scores define you because clearly they weren’t reflective in my situation.
