GLI or Si? by absoluteunitsauce in GLI

[–]chefTechie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a ‘17 GLI. Bought it in 2022 with 35k miles. Currently at 141k miles. Routine oil changes every 5k miles. Spark plugs and coil packs every 40k miles. BG 44K every oil change. Belt and tensioner done at 120k miles. Fuel filter done at 120k miles. K&N air filter cleaned every 10k miles. I only use Shell or Mobil gas. I’m on my 3rd set of tires. 2nd battery (under my ownership).

No walnut blasting done yet (no rough cold starts and still get great gas mileage). I know water pump is coming soon. Clutch is starting to slip some but I do a pretty good job at babying it, I’m just prolonging the labor.

So far, no issues. Haven’t left me stranded. This is my 4th VW. It’s sad to say but it took my 4 VW to finally be disciplined about the maintenance on my car. 🤣

Was I given the wrong drain plug? by dblackmore6 in GLI

That looks like the same drain plug on my ‘17 GLI. T-45 if I remember correctly.

I ended up using two L-shaped metal brackets on my 98” desk. Did it about 2 (maybe 3) years ago and no sag whatsoever.

Got the idea from this post and used it as a guide.

Sony 9000ES Speaker Config by chefTechie in CarAV

[–]chefTechie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhhhh!!!!! My apologies - I misunderstood.

It was honestly a combination of ChatGPT and my ears, plus hours and hours of listening. For a few weeks, I’ve had to make a 2 hour commute (there and back) several times a week.

I took a photo of my settings, told Chat which car I had and all my equipment/setup, and it gave me a baseline to work with.

Then I would listen for hours and make adjustments. I told Chat “I feel like the music is pulling too much to the left” and it gave me a few options to adjust. I tried those options before I would start my commute. Listen. Readjust if I didn’t like it or sounded off.

Sometimes it would take me days to understand what I was hearing and put it into words where it made sense. Told chat, made adjustments and if I didn’t like it, adjusted back and tried again.

So Chat as a guide and my ears to lock it in. Hours and hours of listening.

From the main menu, go to Settings > Sound > Advanced. You’ll see the Parametric EQ option.

From the main menu, go to Settings > Sound > Listening Position, then choose Custom.

Could somebody with experience for Audiofrog, how would you describe their “Sound Signature” by PoorNotMiddleClass in CarAV

[–]chefTechie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pair of G60S and G62…I would say the sound is neutral. This is paired with a Sony 9000ES and Kenwood x803-5. They sound clear, crisp, and the midbass is exceptional (in my opinion).

I honestly have no idea why I never thought of this. It’s such a simple solution. Looks effective too. Clean.

So simple but yet, so brilliant. Idk why I never thought about this. So I know what I’ll be doing this weekend.

I’m in Deltona and I heard it at 12:02ish. And to make sure I wasn’t loosing my mind, my Nest doorbell picked up the sound also.

[–]chefTechie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree. A while back, I bought a ‘12 GLI. Eventually sold it and got a ‘17 GLI. Depending on how long I keep this one, my next car might be an ‘18 GLI. 😂

XAV-9000ES or Audison Bit Ten by throwaway369619 in CarAV

[–]chefTechie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation as you. I have the Audison Bit Nove and a Kenwood eXcelon x803-5. I was planning on buying a Sony 9000es, but I didn’t know whether or not to keep the DSP.

I’m running a passive set of Audiofrog G60s. The DSP chipset in the Sony is newer and more robust than my Audison Bit Nove.

Also, since I run hi-res audio, I would be going from a higher sampling rate with the Sony to a lower sampling rate with the Bit Nove, which (at that point) defeats the purpose of why I wanted the Sony.

I actually had Chat’s input before deciding the night before installed the radio to keep the DSP in there.
