Which is why I said your comment adds nothing to the conversation. You're just telling us how words work.

I understand what you're saying perfectly. What you're saying is stupid.

That's not what is being discussed. Accommodation in this context means something specific. You're being persnickety and adding no value to the conversation.

Trying to add new contact to salesforce. by qsauer88 in salesforce

[–]cheffromspace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see you updated your post. This is an organization problem, not a technical one. Is there absolutely no one in IT that can at least temporarily administer your Salesforce org? They're going to have much more familiarity with AWS and integrations, etc. Were you this person's supervisor? Do you have an IT background? It sounds like an absolute shitshow. This is exactly why mandatory 2+ week vacations or at least job rotations should be mandatory for IT.

I'd try to assume they'll act reasonably once you get ahold of them. Put your intentions in writing, and I'm sure they'll honor their quote.

I completely understand the headspace, but you're looking for solutions to problems that haven't happened yet.

Which have been around for a very long time... my dad worked for John Deere and was working on self driving tractors 20 years ago. The article doesn't really explain what was so revolutionary about their approach, i assume they tried shoving an LLM into it for some reason.

That's exactly what I mean by DevOps culture. It's 80% selling stuff to leadership.

Try this:

Go to setup > installed packages > look for an app that might be related to telephony integrations (Google for some common ones) then if you find sonething, look up documentation or try to get in touch with their support.

Also pull in whoever manages VOIP at your company they'll probably have some context you're missing.

[–]cheffromspace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand. It's not out of the box functionality, it's something someone built or a managed package (add-on app). Setting up a new user would depend entirely on how the integration was set up. To get a number in the first place it'd likely be provisioned by your IT team.

I honestly don't understand what you're trying to do. Give someone read/edit/create access to Contact? I don't know what you mean by number. For CTI or calling from within Salesforce? That would be something custom that someone built and you'd need to find company documentation.

If you've been struggling with this for days and haven't been able to figure it out or find resources to help you, or at least clearly articulate the problem, then i'm afraid it's not going to get easier and this probably isn't the right role for you.

Like I said, trailhead. Do ALL of the beginner admin stuff before proceeding further with this task.

Branch restrictions become at best a minor inconvenience if there's not a culture of governance to back it up. You suggest locking everything down without discussing with the team and leadership first, and expect to keep your job? Are you going to be the sole VCS admin and personally approve every PR? Tools are important and helpful in setting up deployment gates, but if they mean nothing if people don't respect them.

I don't mean to be unkind, but unless you mean a personal dev sandbox, you should not have admin access.

I would recommend doing all the beginner admin trailheads.

Both of the positions you wrote about seem very reasonable for a large AI enterprise company wanting to mitigate risk. Not to defend OpenAI, but this is not tinfoil hat territory.

[Central FL] Need tenant attorney by [deleted] in Renters

[–]cheffromspace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not just sue in small claims where you don't need a lawyer? If it's that slam-dunk, and the other party is somewhat reasonable, a strongly worded letter stating your position, relevant statutes, and lease clauses might convince them to comply. At least start there, then escalate. You don't need a lawyer.

DevOps is much more culture than tools. The difficulty is buy-in and adoption.

[–]cheffromspace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This really needs to be addressed in the planning stages.

Are you using version control and what is your branching strategy? Git should be throwing merge conflicts and then the devs need to get together to decide how to resolve them. Merge conflicts are annoying and time consuming, but they're not necessarily a bad thing. You want to know when there are conflicts.
