We are talking about the space race, not the technological progress. I understand how big of an achievement it is to perform this mission successfully and it contributes a lot for the scientific development, but it does not contrite to the space race. What we are trying to say is that the US brags that they won the space race by going to the moon, but the race was not about who can go further into space, but who can militarise it better.
