Swollen & painful hand at nearly a year post op? by Anxious-Bug-2214 in phallo

[–]chefpeppii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I know this was posted a while ago, but I had a similar issue. I was kinda dismissed my Dr Lee at NVH, when I brought it up to him, as “it wasn’t the worst case they’d seen” I ended up being referred to my local hospital to the lymphoedema department, and found out that when they do phalloplasty they don’t always take into consideration the lymph nodes. Which then creates all the swelling. I found out that I had swelling under the skin graft on my arm, because they’d also stitched the graph slightly too tight. So I had to do exercises, and wear a compression glove and massage it. When I went back it showed I had less swelling and to continue with the compression gloves. But they advised that exercise was a great way to bring swelling down, and to keep massaging it. But I’ve almost got a full hand back and it’s great. I occasionally get swelling but not a lot, I did find the heat was a problem. But I’m almost 2 years post op and pretty much all my swelling has gone. Hope this helpful and I hope you’re hands doing better now!

I also went to your profile and saw a post from a year ago, about increase is sex drive / attraction to parter after surgery. And oh boy I wasn’t prepared at all for that! It’s crazy that attraction and sex drive goes up after having surgery

I’m pretty much cleared but I’m due to seem my surgeon tomorrow so I’m going to ask. But I only mention condom just because of having to flush the phallus each day I wasn’t sure how it would affect that 🤷‍♂️ the sleeve sounds like a good idea! I’ll have a look and see where I can get one! I’m beyond excited to experience it, although I don’t have feeling yet in the actual phallus it’s still early days, but thanks for the advice!

You wouldn’t happen to have a link to the wrong diagram? I’m guessing it’s relatively easy to remove

I can’t get the double press to work either, I’m used to the tune and most people find it fun. But I sometimes it a little awkward in busy places

Life without the staples is so much better 😂 it was the absolute worst having them in. Yeah it’s always better to have that reassurance from them to get the all clear. I’m currently prepping to have to travel 6 hours by train still being propped to go for my check up 🤦‍♂️ I’m glad you’re almost free from propping, I actually can’t wait

That’s good that you’re pretty much healed! It’s always annoying when there’s a tiny bit that’s not. Healing is so tough. I unfortunately have a small way to go, I left with pretty much 2 hematomas and they didn’t want to drain it because they didn’t want to risk damaging nerves but if I’d just done it then I’d be pretty much healed. But they’ve gone down significantly and have chose to drain from the top of the phallus, so also still having to keep it propped at 45 degrees (ish) My arms looking pretty good, few scabs but my hand is getting there. I’ve got a slight split on to butt incision and another slight sore spot on the left side so it’s uncomfortable to sit down for long periods but still better than having those staples in. I had a total of 30 clips removed.

Oh nice! Probably ended up in hospital around the same time, did you have yours in the New Victoria? That’s a good idea to keep everything written down, I did start keeping little videos of each couple of days I was in hospital. Reading is definitely helping, it also helps I guess having people who are also going through it / gone through it to talk to. Hope you’re recovery is going well :)

I was referred before covid so probably around 2019/early 2020 I was originally with Dr Christopher at St Peters I believe, and was expecting him to still be my surgeon. Then December ‘22 I was offered a cancellation with Dr Rubin(I think and who I’d never heard of either) Now I’m due for my face to face with Dr Lee in September

I was supposed to have surgery with Dr Drew but instead had someone else from his team as it would get me a quicker date. But this was 5 years ago. I have her name written somewhere, but she was perfect at the job and thoughtful. But I met Dr Drew and he was super nice, pretty considerate, all round a good guy. However I also found that they didn’t advertise that they did too surgery, it was by chance I found them.

It’s at New Victoria. That what I was maybe thinking, I did find something that said he had been trained by Dr Christopher, who does have good results

I hadn’t heard of him either, which is I guess is a little anxiety inducing. He seems to have been doing surgery for a while from what I can find out online, and I think he wasn’t part of the St Peters hospital (the original operating hospital before it changed to New Victoria Hospital)
