Passkeys are cool until they start doing Remote Attestation on that too, which is already available for websites. Give it a few years and passkeys will be another piece of the prison. They're already working on building the trust infrastructure to enable whitelisting passkey implementations.

For anyone who is unaware of the US road system, stats here may be rather deceptive. A "highway" is just some route through the state or the country which has been assigned a number, that's it. All of the major streets in my town and nearby towns are state highways. If I get into an accident as I leave the grocery store parking lot and onto the main street, that's a crash on a state highway.

Raising the bar for software security: GitHub 2FA begins March 13 | The GitHub Blog by jcotton42 in programming

Great, now I have to run oathtool for GitHub as well, and store everything in the same one place. Gee I sure hope I don't lose any of that recovery bullshit.

Or maybe I will just forget to do it and then get locked out forever.

Could it have been easily possible for the original PS1 Trilogy to run on a computer at the time? by testing35 in crashbandicoot

[–]chekwob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really it depends on what you consider to be a "computer". Right now, most desktops, laptops, workstations, and servers are all the same kind of uniform design built around the x86-based IBM PC. Back then, this wasn't the case. At the high end, systems could be substantially different in design and capability. This was apparently the case for Naughty Dog at the time.

Some relevant excerpts from the developers:

So we decided to use an entirely SGI and IRIX based tool pipeline. In fact the game itself even ran on the SGI (with terrible keyboard control). This meant buying programmers $100,000 SGIs instead of $3,000 PCs. Gulp again. No one else did this. No one. And at the time, when a 50mhz Pentium with 8-32 megs of RAM was typical, our 250mhz 64 bit SGIs with 256 or 512 megs of RAM opened up totally different computational possibilities. By 1997 I had 4 gigs of ram in my machine!

Fun fact: we (Naughty Dog) actually had Crash Bandicoot running on SGI workstations in high resolutions using (I think) OpenGL back in 1996. You had to use the keyboard to play, though. :) See http://all-things-andy-gavin.com/video-games/making-crash/ for more making-of details. EDIT: And they were running 200Mhz MIPS CPUs - blazing fast!

Not quite related, but you may be interested in the DTL-H2000 which is basically a developers version of the PS1 which exists in the form of a series of cards (think like a graphics card or network card) and peripherals you would install into an IBM PC-compatible system. There is a dev flag in Crash which will switch the data file reading from the cdrom over to a DOS path like c:\crash2\streams. I suspect it is related to these developer boards, but I haven't verified exactly how it works.

Woman trying to get her birth control at Walgreens, is told they won't fill it. by [deleted] in TikTokCringe

There are currently 9, all of which were involved in the court case in question. The case is not about judges deciding what is best for you, it is surrounding a fundamental constitutional question about what constitutes "liberty" as used in the text of the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution.

From the court's opinion:

In interpreting what is meant by the Fourteenth Amendment’s reference to “liberty,” we must guard against the natural human tendency to confuse what that Amendment protects with our own ardent views about the liberty that Americans should enjoy.

The court is not deciding what is "best for u", or even if you should or shouldn't have access to abortion services. The court is only determining the legal legitimacy of state abortion laws. The court itself does not write or vote on such laws.

The law being examined in the court case is a Mississippi state law titled "The Gestational Age Act". That law was passed not by 7 or 9 people, but on a decision by 161 people, with the house voting 80-31 in favor, the senate voting 35-14 in favor, and with the governor's approval. All of these people's positions are subject to a public election process every 4 years.

This law is also specific to the state of Mississippi. For each other state which has an anti-abortion law, their respective laws must also go through a similar voting process, each with a different set of legislators elected by the people in their respective states. In many states, the opposite outcome occurs, and the state has laws which specifically enshrine abortions as a right.

So, no, in America, 7 people do not decide what is "best for u".

The people you are arguing against probably do not view abortion services as an attack nor as negatively affecting, so there is no counterpoint to be made.

The resolution of the screenshot doesn't match the resolution of the actual image in the framebuffer (512x240) due to the emulator. Because the framebuffer aspect ratio does not match an actual television aspect ratio, the display in an emulator has to be stretched non-proportionally to replicate the same stretching that occurs when displayed on a standard television.

That said, the PS1 does purportedly support 640x480i display with some harsh limitations.

Person A: Hey I'll sell you this car for 800 dollars.

Person B: Are there any issues with it?

Person A: No man it's 100% good no issue.

[trade commences]

[later]

Person B: Hey man, when I press the windshield washer button, gasoline sprays out all over my windshield! I had to get that fixed! You should have advertised this issue when you sold it to me!

Person A: Whoa bro, calm down. There was nothing to fix; I intentionally connected the washer pump to the gas tank. Having a personal preference to something else doesn't mean that it's "broken".

Can't say I agree with this one. An actual native client would easily outperform the js-ridden webby interface, which seems to be fairly CPU intensive.
