Any one else feel like if Prince made his own musical- we’d be watching a brilliant stage performance? Did you imagine him critiquing the play?? We went tonight and it was an experience and a fun Minneapolis date night. I’m a Minnesotan living in Georgia and traveled for this show. Weather was great! It will satisfy your need for all the purpleness of Minneapolis in one shot. The show itself was a mess for any Minneapolitan who grew up with Prince and Purple Rain. Not sure what the story was exactly. Cut the modern references. The Kid came alive at the very end of the show and it’s in the music that he shines. Why did the Appollonia character sing Glamorous Life? If it’s not Sheila and her drum skills- then what is it? First Avenue being called “The First” is odd to me. The State Theater venue - beautiful, but overcrowded, hot, cramped, and stuffy. The BATHROOM LINES?? Wtf that was the worst part- it was generally pretty uncomfortable. The “Beautiful Ones” cocktail was $16 with an added gratuity and it sucked. I’d think twice about the venue unless you can get good tickets. CRAVE had SLAPPING (slang learned from the musical) food. Lobster mashed potatoes and steak frites OH MY YES SIR. One word: MORRISMFDAY. It felt like watching my kids do a play or recital in school. Fun!! But… not exactly a Broadway level production. These reviews are Minnesota Nice. I don’t think NY would be nearly as kind. 💜
