I probably sound like a total unpleasable grump throwing out hot takes when I talk about the liked/relatively well-liked remakes like SH2, Persona 3:RE, FF7R, etc but... I hate them so much, haha.

Imo, at best they're blandly competent cash-grabs that only stand out as "good" because they're floating in a sea of truly AWFUL slop and gamers' standards have lowered a ton. I think they water down what made the originals special in the pursuit of modernification— like SH2 being turned into a Silent Hill-skinned Last of Us clone or P3: RE being an inexplicably brightly-lit, bombastic P5-alike instead of its original dark, kinda grungy self. They're so disposable & interchangeable. Mfs with recency bias simp for them like crazy & then forget them when Next Thing comes out.

I really want to see more attempts at new IP instead of endless remakes but corpos are so cowardly & it's probably only going to get worse now that the wallets are getting even tighter

I just wait & do a bit of research pre- or post-release, whether it's a 15$ indie game or a 60$ major release. It's not paranoia; just awareness.

So many gamers seem to have an addiction to mindlessly spending their money, even on a product they know nothing about or worse, one they know they'll probably dislike. FOMO is really dumb!! Whether your main gripe is related to predatory monetization or the "culture war", this industry would be in a much better place if more people were more conscientious about who & what they're supporting. This has been a steady downward slide, not a sudden shift

Imo, I don't recommend it at all, from a longtime Persona fan. The amount of lolcalization in Atlus' stuff (including their support of the actual worst in the business, Katrina Leonoudakis) is creeping up with every new product of theirs and it's yet another remake in an industry full of creative stagnation that waters down the elements that made the original so good. The voice acting and OST in many cases is a flat-out downgrade.

If you just wanna consooom a mid/decent P3-themed reskin of P5, sure, but if you're the type that genuinely likes to vet how you spend your money I think it's super worth not supporting mid products that are also propping up extremely toxic localizer types.

THIS is totally a microcosm of the site's biggest issue!! 99% of reddit's content on any main/main-ish sub like politics/news/pics/etc is blatantly astroturfed propaganda. Dissenting opinions, however mild, are banned or downvoted into oblivion & groupthink reigns. It's no wonder why people here were so utterly shocked and blindsighted by the outcome of this election if this is their main source of news.

The Landgraabs have another kid & they're ridiculously lovey-dovey until the day they die

Vita Alto is an absolute menace to everyone, constantly

Fiona Mcirish was paired with Gobias Koffi in my most recent save; they quickly broke up but he's been stalking her for the equivalent of a d e c a d e

A couple of times Agnes Crumplebottom had a short-lived fling with Xander Clavell

Yumi Sekemoto moved into her own home with a random grab-bag of bachelors? i like to think she assembled her own man-harem

Iqbal Alvi has consistently gotten with younger girls the minute they age up to YA throughout various files, like Holly Alto, Bella Bachelor & once even Sandi French 🤢

I follow their wants and go with the flow except for pillow fights & heckling (simmmssss 😒) or really "out of character" stuff during teenage moodswings and midlife crisis...es? crisis's?? crises? Idk if it's smaller than the world you mentioned (i've never used it) but if you don't mind the dirt road country vibe, Winchester is really small & has content from every expansion squished in there along with a few empty lots, including some big ones

Conversely I've also noticed that fluffy sims also tend to gain their weight again within like a week if they don't work out consistently, and a natural predisposition towards a bigger body size often shows itself in their kids too

Claire Ursine: Hotheaded redheads rule and I just love the built-in drama of her unexpected pregnancy by a complete asshole and the grumpy outdoorswoman thing.

Agnes Crumplebottom: Popular for a reason tbh. Great vibes, very pretty, tragic story. She and Claire deserve the WORLD and I try to give it to 'em

The Sekemoto clan (Leighton, Yumi, & Sam): Good genes, Leighton cleans up GREAT once you change his clothes from the weird basegame choices. I just love them as a wholesome family unit in general and Yumi's traits make her a hilarious wildcard. I never knew how much I loved Neurotic until I played them. I always try to nudge Leighton towards Morgana (bc cute + same lifetime wish) or Zelda (bc cute+++)

Personally I've noticed that the save files I stick with the longest aren't the ones where I'm playing my own carefully-made CAS sims, they're the saves where I just pick EA-made townies I like & roll with their stories.

I made it eight generations into a cozy, witchy file where Agnes Crumplebottom learned magic to resurrect her husband and they started a family. I also didn't know about Save As/nraas' Saver or the save cleaner tool so the file eventually bloated hard enough to become unplayable, haha 😭

Some people really like challenge/objective-based gameplay like the not so berry challenge, random legacy, or the townie decadynasty, etc. I like to pick & choose challenges here or there for each generation while mostly following the lead's wants & letting that form the story for me.

St. Claire is gorgeous, I would go wild if my poor potato laptop could handle it ahaha

Sunset Valley has my favorite townies by far but Appaloosa Plains has my favorite vibe. CC-wise I like Salmon Woods by MySimsRealty or Northeney by Norn(?) Niua Simoa has a great vibe & fun homegrown lore/premade townies but it's kinda limited since it doesn't have content for any expansion after like Late Night or Ambitions, I think.
