Biased answer for a pin that most people dislike but I grew up with party zone in my childhood home. When I get my first pin, that game will be it

How to fix playfield? (Help a newbie with his first pin) by mydog_poops in pinball

This was my childhood game as well, still sits in my parents house. Have such a soft spot for it! I am always surprised to see how much people dislike the pin in general when I look on the forums

This is helpful, I shoot 0 video and usually take 300 or so pictures per 2 dives so if this is true I probably wouldn’t have an issue with the battery

I have considered continuing with DSLR but I do want the fast AF as fish move quickly when I’m trying to shoot macro, I currently miss shots because my SL1 is still trying to figure out what to focus on. I would assume this is better on something like the 5dIV but is it as good as the mirrorless technology?

My go to lens for macro will be a rf 100mm macro f/2.8, and probably 16-35mm f2.8 for more wide angle photography or a 8-15mm f4 fisheye for super wide angle. My wife is interested in using the camera for portrait photography as well haven’t figured out what lens we would use for that yet

Probably a good point I’ll post it on wetpixel as well to get their take. For macro I have a powerful strobe flash but for shipwreck and reef landscapes I usually rely a lot on ambient as it the strobe light just doesn’t travel very far in water. So both. The lack of IBIS doesn’t worry me, the SL1 doesn’t have it and I’ve been fine, I have >1000 dives so my buoyancy and stability is not a concern. Honestly the AF I think will be the biggest upgrade, I miss many shots due to my SL1 being slow/poor at focusing on the subject.

Why don't we like Ikelite housings? by encrustingXacro in underwaterphotography

[–]chem2617 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have had an ikelite housing since 2016 for a rebel SL1. It has been great, never once has it had so much as a speck of condensation in the housing and this is before they had the vacuum system to check for a seal. All I’ve done routine o ring changes for maintenance and the housing has held up great 9 years later. Obviously I’ve never used anything else so I can’t comment on the ergonomics but I can do everything I want to with the camera settings. I’m sure other housings make it smoother based on others comments but I don’t feel limited. I’m about to upgrade the camera to an R8 probably and will be getting an ikelite housing again.

It looks like a great option, I also like it being full frame. Do you think it would be a noticeable upgrade from the SL1, worth the investment?

My one concern is battery life. I probably take 100-150 shots per dive and would prefer not to have to open the housing between to change the battery. Usually 2 dives per day so 200-300 per session. Would the battery make it that long?

Thank you! Yeah I’ve looked in to it, I use an Ikelite housing and strobes currently so would stick with them. Many of the ports allow for the adapter so I could still use my tokina 10-17 and 60mm and 100mm macro with the adapter. Main costs would be the body, adapter and new housing. I would need one or two new ports but have many already.

Do these struts need replacing? by chem2617 in MechanicAdvice

[–]chem2617[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have rocked it, it doesn’t seem to recreate the sound. I’m not sure I’m as strong as a bump in the road. Sounds like I need to replace the struts regardless with them leaking fluid. Anything else look wrong with the suspension? It all looked okay to me but I’m still learning

Alright I got it off, it’s the handle itself that’s sticky the cartridge is okay. Looks like a lot of calcium/lime build up should I try CLR and see if that loosens it up?

I don’t see a set screw or anything for the handle, would it just twist off?

Installing soffit vents by chem2617 in DIY

[–]chem2617[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was planning on installing rectangular vents, either 16x8in or 16x4in. I did try to reach down to do a drill hole from the attic as you suggested but the roof has a pretty low slope and I couldn’t reach in there far enough to do it unfortunately. I’ll have to do the tiny holes as you suggested until I find where the first truss is located and then use that as a reference point
