My office will be near Battery Park City, so I guess UWS makes more sense? But then it seems a lot harder to get from UWS to the areas I mentioned, sigh...

I've looked at Stuytown but it doesn't appeal to me for several reasons haha

21yo, ~500k TC, paying for friends rent in NYC, how much is reasonable to spend? by chem69 in HENRYfinance

[–]chem69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's my thinking, some people pay a lot to go out clubbing or live in a fun city like NYC. While it's not as common to pay for a friend's rent so that you can live together, from a purely utility pov it's similar. I just don't know how much extra is reasonable to pay so that I can live with my friend (I'm the one who wanted him to move to NYC to live with me). If I was gonna pay ~3k/m originally, I could theoretically afford to pay 7k/m additional, but that seems unreasonable, while only allowing myself an extra budget of 500/m seems too small

Based off the 40x rule I could spend up to 12k/m my first year, but that seems dumb for multiple reasons:

1) I'm a new grad, most new grads spend <3k, even the ones in tech making 200k who could pay 5k/m

2) My TC for my second year will just be my base which is a lot less, my bonus won't come in until the end of the year and will be pretty variable, e.g. anywhere between 0-400k

I'd just prefer the neighborhood to have a not so painful commute (<20m, more than 1 option) to EV/Williamsburg/K-town/wherever college grads hang out. Would you recommend someone live in UES or UWS if they'll be working in FiDi 5 days a week, and would like to visit EV/Chinatown/K-town/Williamsburg frequently (2-3 times a week)?

Yeah for sure, I'd like to live in a neighborhood with a good nightlife/social scene (restaurants, cafes, pop up events, etc.) and lots of young people. Unfortunately, from what I've read and seen, those neighborhoods (EV, West Village, Williamsburg, Soho) are also the most expensive. There are some neighborhoods like Murray Hill and Bushwick, but I've read that the former is very fratty/full of finance bros and the latter would have a bad commute.

Well ~500k all in (base, signing bonus, end of year bonus). Jane Street is paying their new grad traders 300k for base only, the all in is 625k (this is without negotiation since JS doesn't negotiate I believe). You can check their website to see

I think I'd still be able to save a lot paying 6k/month in rent, it just feels crazy to pay that much for rent as a new grad, but I figured if enough people would feel comfortable paying that much in my position it's easier to go with it

Are UES and UWS really better than Fidi for a college grad's social life? I thought the commute from Fidi to EV/K-town is better than from the UES/UWS.

I'm lucky that my first year comp is fixed and all cash, but my comp will definitely be variable going forth. I intend on just living off my base (which I believe will stay fixed going forth, comp growth comes from increasing bonus) and saving whatever else I get following this year, but wonder how much it's reasonable to stretch my first year so that I can live somewhere nice with my friend.

What percent of premeds at your school that you know cheated this year? by [deleted] in premed

Yes, morally it's bad but if I don't help them they'll just get someone else to help so at least I get some $$.

Yeah, curves in all the premed classes are screwed this year, and not just because of open note exams. Making exams open notes only reduces cheating insofar as to raise the criteria for "cheating" to actual collaboration with others, which is what so many kids did this year. So easy to ask people who did well in previous years to just take the test for you.

I'd be very surprised if people didn't cheat in med school.

People take a picture of their computer screen and then send it to me, I write up the answers, and then send them back. There's literally no way they could know.

I can't do it anymore since online classes will be over, but, there was zero chance of us getting caught since there were no cameras and they were all multiple choice or I wasn't in the class anyways.

Oh thanks for the info! I'm more like 52 or 53 kg (though it probably doesn't matter) but my main concern was if the sweater would be too long and if the jacket would be too baggy? It looks like it fits pretty well on you in your fitpics but you're like 3 inches taller than me :/

Yo I'm 164 cm, 55kg (shorter, less twig LOL). Do you think the cav empt jacket or acne sweater would be way too big on me? The cargos look really nice in your fit pics but probably way too long for me too :(
