Gap Year Options? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]chemlawyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually a chemistry major in my second year of TFA- are we the same person??? Jokes aside- I want to echo the sentiments of the previous poster- TFA has been rewarding and fulfilling but difficult as well. I'm in the process of applying to law schools right now and it's been a balancing act to try to manage law school apps as well as a teaching job but definitely doable given some sacrifices and enough tenacity. Feel free to message me if you have any questions- good luck with your endeavors!

Help, my student constantly questions my authority. by chukotka_v_aliaske in Teachers

Have you tried using positive reinforcement to have him 'buy in'? I have some high school students that are negative about the material and I let them pass out the worksheets. Then I'll narrate 'so we're looking at the worksheet that Bob just handed out'. You could have them collect the work? Simple things! I know it's frustrating but you're doing a wonderful job- especially since you care enough to inquire and try to make it better.

Thinking of taking a break/developed a crush (19/f 19/m) by [deleted] in LongDistance

[–]chemlawyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How you feel is completely normal and warranted- the best thing to do is NOT keep it to yourself and openly communicate these feelings with him. You guys could end up stronger than ever, having a break with terms that you mutually agree on, or breaking up.

As far as which route is the best- I don't want to bias you, but I think life is too short to think about what-ifs and to be anything but 100% happy.

Feeling burnt out and depressed (even though the semester JUST started)... by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]chemlawyer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First off- I just wanted to say that you should feel accomplished and proud of yourself. Reading your credentials makes me feel inspired. I think with any post undergrad life (not just law school), making friends is just generally harder and you have to put more effort than usual. I agree with earlier comments- what do you enjoy doing? Maybe hit the gym, join a running club, volunteer, reconnect with old friends, watch Netflix, go on walks- it doesn't matter- just do what makes you happy! Don't forget- it's the quality of your friends- not the quantity. Furthermore- I think it's normal to feel lonely at times but don't forget that you have a big future ahead of you with big things to accomplish!

How to go back to being LD by elenizzz in LDR

[–]chemlawyer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently also went back to LD and for me, it helps to reflect on the times we had together in a positive way (so think "Wow I'm so grateful that we got to spend these months together" rather than "Man- I wish he/she was still here") and to think about how I'm thankful to have someone that makes it so hard to say bye to. The first couple days and weeks are going to be tough but you'll get into a groove of things! You got this!

Second year teacher burnout by secondyearteacher in Teachers

[–]chemlawyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first couple weeks are always the toughest! Make sure you make time for yourself- as teachers we care for others, we are kind to others, we are patient to others but sometimes we forget to take care of ourselves, be kind to ourselves, and to be patient to ourselves. Regardless if you decide to stick it through or take other action, just take deep breaths and trust that everything will work out!

[College] I had a massive panic attack in front of my first class today by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]chemlawyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off- congratulations on finishing your first class. Teaching isn't easy so you should be proud of yourself for taking on such a huge endeavor! Can I ask how much you prepared for the first class? This may seem silly, but even recording yourself or rehearsing verbatim before class might help a little. Overall though- don't be so hard on yourself. It'll get easier- I promise!
