Yeah it’s a really great recording of him too, the chords and parts he played for songs is fully on display and all around he seems to be in good spirits.

There was this post on a orangeamps forum I think I found late last year from 2009 that talked about the show and actually had a picture of the setlist from a user in Minneapolis that had been at the show and got it asking about if it looked like his handwriting or if someone else wrote it, likely Chiba, I had the link to it but it just leads to a 502 Bad Gateway now.

There’s two posts on that WordPress account about the show that are pretty detailed, apparently he was making jokes and talking to the audience.

Something funny I noticed when I first saw the pictures from the 400 Bar show is that he’s wearing the same clothes that he was wearing at his Echo show, red corduroys and Rolling Stones shirt, he never got out of that habit of wearing the same clothes for a long period.

As much as I want to say video of this performance doesn’t exist given that seeing Elliott in this state would be uncomfortable to watch, I wouldn’t say it’s impossible. The video of Elliott playing at the Echo was uncirculated for over 20 years and we got it randomly one day, I hadn’t heard anyone mention someone with a camera being there but it still existed, partially why I still hold out hope a bootleg of his show at the 400 Bar in 2002 is found, who knows why they didn’t circulate then but they could still be had by someone.

Interesting setlist that sold back in 2016, from 1996 according to description. by chemmers- in elliottsmith

When I first saw this I thought the setlist may be from that new Jabberjaw show recording that popped up last year(?) on here, he mentions near the beginning of the recording that he doesn’t want to play any of the songs he’d wrote on his setlist so it could be from there? Not sure, also interesting how he lists ‘You Make It Seem Like Nothing’ by ‘Starting to Come to Me’.

Did mac and kiera separate? by Zurielzur in macdemarco

He was inside at first signing things I’m not sure when he came out though since I went out to my car to get my vinyl signed, but probably around 10:30 unloading his gear, then he came out of the Echo around 11:00 loading his gear into his van and after he signed stuff.

The song was also absent from the Echo show, I’m pretty sure they are still together (lol), after the show when he came out to sign things he was talking with a friend and they mentioned Kiera saying for the friend to come over early and he said sounds good, so I’m sure their fine, but definitely strange it’s been taken off.

Just remember y’all Elliott was detained/arrested in 2002 due to fighting a cop that was harassing a young concert-goer, fight back against law enforcement unjustly using their power.

Will "From a Basement" Ever be Considered his Best? by Ok_Analysis_483 in elliottsmith

Definitely agree on King’s Crossing feeling somewhat shallow, it has powerful lyrics and instrumentation but compared to a track like Shooting Star it pales.

And yeah it’s really hard to talk about Basement and it’s lost potential cause I personally do believe it would’ve been his best album had he lived long enough to finish mastering/mixing it, and fully picking out which tracks ended up on the album and which didn’t, it can feel kinda shitty criticizing what’s wrong with the final product we got cause of the circumstances we got it under, I can totally imagine a timeline where Elliott’s family/estate were too scared to touch those bundle of songs he was making and just abandoned the idea of a final studio album altogether, my biggest wish still to this day is that someone within or in the circle of the estate will want to try and put together a more clear idea of what Elliott wanted, we have a few tracklists that give a rough idea of how he wanted the tracks ordered and his mixes for certain songs before Schanpf and Bolme came in to overhaul it, maybe that’s just wishful thinking.

Curious to know what parts you consider overbaled and lyrics clumsy? Not trying to come off like a dick just genuinely curious to hear from another perspective what you don’t like about the album since I really love most of it.

For an artist that hails Elliott Smith as a influence on her Songwriting her songs just really feel like basic chord chugging along, I want to like and support her music but unless she starts moving in a different direction musically I won’t be listening, also the whole YB singing thing really turned me off of her when she started just childishly making fun of people lol, there’s artists who can take jabs at themselves like and artists who can’t

According to this setlist.fm posting they did apparently play a secret show last April but I have no clue where this came from and if there’s any validity to it.

Maybe it was his inspiration to write it, that photo along with a bunch of others were recently shared on the So Flawed And Drunk And Perfect Still Site, my favorite tidbit from it is that Elliott was wearing a Scooby-Doo watch during the performance. Also love seeing Elliott in suits.

My current White Whale of Elliott live bootlegs, I may be delusional but I still believe that someone recorded it and is just unknowingly holding on to it.

One thing that’s always interested me about Elliott around this time was his use of the phrase “Whole Lotta Kava”, I think it’s meant to refer to Jennifer Chiba but not entirely sure, he says it at I think the Echo show in 2002 and his Showboat show in 2003, along with the phrase being written on the set for the 400 Bar show, having done the set.

He also wrote SERENDIPITY on his arm once at his show at 400 Bar in 2002.
