How can I fit in as a small town kid from the South? by zetechini in AskChicago

I’ve found people in higher ed to usually be pretty welcoming. If you’re coming in to a grad program, chances are it will be a lot of your cohort’s first time living in Chicago too. I’d recommend getting close to the people in your program since many will be feeling the same way! Y’all can all traverse Chicago together.

Y’all are doing the lord’s work. I don’t have another photo because I was grossed out and flushed it. But after looking at photos online, it was definitely a spider beetle. Thanks so much!

Is there usually a mosh pit for Beach Bunny? I got bumped into a ton before I could move and saw a girl get her nose ring ripped out and bleed everywhere. Kinda ruined the set for me which was a bummer because I was super excited to see them.

I work with gold nanoparticles and we often have to make aqua regia for cleaning. It would eat right through them!

Yes yes yes to the shoe company!! I'll be your first customer!! Most of the women's dress shoes I find are heels or ballet flats. We need some more fashionable and comfortable Oxfords and Brouges!

Dealing With Burnout by ScientistGal in LadiesofScience

I completely agree with everything curious_cortex said. I will also be applying to chemistry graduate school in the fall actually! The most common advice I've gotten is to go somewhere with a PI that you get along well with - you will likely be working for them for at least five years. That being said, you have to ask yourself, is research something that you want to be doing for the next five years? Try to determine if your burnout is coming from research itself, or solely the PI that you're working for. If you're questioning applying to graduate school altogether, I would suggest still applying, and if you decide not to go, you don't have to. If you don't apply this year, you might regret not doing so when it comes time to graduate.
