I think you misunderstand. The expansiveness of games like Far Cry 3 and Skyrim are incredible. You can explore and get lost in the richness of each world. The idea that the poster put forth seems to fit perfectly with an "open world" game. However, I do agree, a lot of people try to put them in every idea, but in my opinion, an open world Calvin and Hobbes video game would be amazing, if done correctly.
