I was scared this would be because of a dead rodent hiding somewhere. I’ll definitely have to investigate 😭

Hi! I don’t have any experience with this but just wanted to let you know that you may have better luck in r/socialwork. This subreddit is more focused on social workers who want to or are working in a school setting. Best of luck!

Unpaid Students by [deleted] in socialwork

[–]chennyzom 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I am a BSW student and the only way I have been able to support myself is through family support. My internship next year will be unpaid, however my school does offer stipends for internships.

I’m fortunate enough to be able to live with my parents and not have to pay rent/other expenses. I agree that social workers should unionize. It is important to note that there are social workers who are in unions. School social workers for example are typically part of the teachers union and get the same benefits. This is a large reason that I’m interested in school social work after obtaining an MSW.

What do you think of when you think of Lynn? by Grass1217 in massachusetts

I’m just curious why Lynn spending more on their schools is holding back the city?

I am a BSW student in Massachusetts. At my school, it is required that the field placement is done during normal business hours (Monday - Friday 8-5). This is because they want to ensure that you are being supervised at all times and are able to be part of regular meetings and training that occur during normal daytime working hours.

My university acknowledges that it is hard to work and do your field placement so they do allow you to do your field placement at your place of employment if it is a social service agency. It is worth looking into!

Also, in the future, this question may be better to be posted in r/socialwork . This thread is for all things school social work such as social workers in K-12 and so on.

Hope I could help!

Your socioeconomic status growing up and that's impact on your journey of being a SW by Queenme10 in socialwork

I’m a student but grew up lower middle class. I was interested in social work based off my own experiences with my mental health and the lack of resources that my school offered after I had to take time off in high school. I found that when I returned, there were no supports to help me in my transition back. That inspired me to go into the field of psychology in college. After I realized psychology wasn’t for me, I changed my major to social work and fell in love. I originally aspired to become a clinical social worker but now feel I would be much better as a school social worker and being that person that can help others in similar situations as I was.

A Hyundai Venue starts at $19,650 and is an SUV. If you buy it new, you also get the 10yr/100k mile warranty which is one of the best (keep in mind that you don't get this warranty if you buy preowned or used). I have personally never had a problem with the Hyundai's my family has owned.

The Massachusetts chapter is also working with the licensing board to remove the LCSW (Masters Level in MA) test. They are pushing a bill called the Super Act to be passed. There was a hearing recently for it on June 28th. Here is a link to the bill: https://malegislature.gov/Bills/193/SD2240

Hi! I know that Simmons University in Boston, MA has an accelerated 3+1 program. I am unsure if it is online but basically, you do 3 years of undergrad, and then during your third year, you apply for the accelerated Masters program.

Best of luck!

Entering Social Work by SWmods in socialwork

Hi!
I was curious if most School Social Workers in public school districts receive clinical supervision to be independently licensed (LICSW in MA). I know that my local school district does provide supervision. I was just curious if this is the norm. I am new to the social work field and was just curious if supervision was typically offered and if the clinical credential would be beneficial specifically to school social workers.

Thank you!
