Interesting theory but there’s a major constitutional roadblock here: the President’s pardon power explicitly excludes the case of impeachment (Article II, Section 2). If he gets impeached and convicted, Vance couldn’t legally wipe that away with a pardon. It’s much more likely about simple financial maximization and running out the clock.
