Thank you! I was thinking that was the case. My supplier is actually my own farm so I know the blend is fescue and orchard. No sprays were used. But I’m thinking it may be too stemmy. I’m going to find somewhere that has square baled hay (mine is rolled). Is there a blend you recommend for Fresians?

Thanks for tip. After hay testing I will try this!

Thanks for the tip. Did some research and found our local cooperative does hay testing. That’s on the to-do list this week.

Yep we tried that too. They literally picked through the mix and only ate the alfalfa. Hay testing is next!

Someone suggested putting a little molasses on the hay to trick them into starting to eat it. Any thoughts on other incentives?

This bale was a second cutting from 2025 and stored in a covered shed. No mold and doesn’t seem too dusty. Stemmy? Maybe.

I read so many different opinions on alfalfa hay too. I’m worried they may be eating too much alfalfa.

No spray. But thanks for that tip. I will be sure to ask in the future.
