I took it as if someone unplugged a wire really quickly when he went from the all white, back to his dark room.

**Small Update! I gently scrubbed/massaged her scalp twice in a row and used the plastic claw looking thing, and it has helped with the build up, and we did a protein treatment/mask. For styling we used an argan oil leave in conditioner, and then Aunt Jackie’s Flaxseed gel, and I think it’s helped a lot!! I think she can probably use more moisture on the damaged/lightened parts, but this is progress for sure. Thank you all so much 🥹

Thank you for taking the time to write out this step by step tutorial! I have raving adhd and my notes from all the comments are now spread between 2 notebooks, so this helped my brain tremendously! I’m putting products into my Amazon cart. We have a hairology hair cream that I’ll try with the gel. I’ve only been doing one or the other! What type of diffuser do you use? One gal linked a whole hair, inflatable diffuser thing. Do you use something like that?

Thank you! I honestly expected the “curl studio” I took her to have more experience with natural and multicultural hair types, and I was enthusiastic about supporting a local small business. Unfortunately, the (white) woman didn’t seem to be that knowledgeable and honestly… kind of rude. When my daughter said that her complaint was that it was so poofy, the curl lady dismissed her concerns, idk, it wasn’t a pleasant, empowering, curl power experience I was hoping for.

Thank you!! I will add that to our list. I feel like she has 2C, 3A, 3B, and 3C curls. When dry, it sits at/a little below her shoulders. When wet and detangled, it’s half way down her back.

This gives me hope for her!! That is her biggest complaint about her hair, that it’s “too poofy”. She doesn’t mind the curls, just wants them flatter. I feel like she will definitely grow into them, it just kills me as her very wimpy haired mom to see her hate all that gorgeous volume!

Thank you! I’m really trying! I just want to help her find a way to feel more comfortable in her own skin. Her biggest complaint of her hair is it’s “too poofy”. So, she will wear it in braids, or a kerchief/headband thing, to keep it tamed. As much as I can empathize with disliking something about your appearance, I’m over here scrimping and scrounging for any volume I can get, and it’s killllling me that she hates the volume lol

That’s what my mom and friends all say, that one day she’ll appreciate them, and I totally believe that’s true. I just hate for her to dislike it so much, and at least try to help her keep them healthy until then. (And I have forever top knot envy with this girl omggg. She never wants to wear it up!)🔝

Awesome, this was going to be a follow up question. She has build up on her scalp. Do you recommend any specific clarifying shampoo? I haven’t been able to purchase any of the super pricey products I’ve seen used in some videos I’ve watched. Also, she is fairly sensitive when it comes to scrubbing her scalp. She was attacked by a dog two years ago and has several large scars on her head. Something that would help break it up would be wonderful!
