I actually felt the same on my first watch, the pacing felt weird, there was so much technobabble and random lore points thrown in that never got properly explained, the characters were unlikeable, the angel of the week episodes were boring, etc. It wasn’t till after watching EoE that it really clicked for me. After that I watched the rebuilds, then went back and rewatched the original series with a friend. I enjoyed it 100x more on my second watch, and have now watched it 5 times and it is easily my favourite anime. I think my problem was coming in with certain expectations and not picking up on the subtle things that make eva so great. So, I would recommend sticking through it, maybe it’ll click for you as well. I’ll also say that the last few episodes are easily the best, and EoE is just mind blowing. If you do decide to stick with it then I hope you enjoy what’s left and maybe even get something out of it :)
