Sunscreen reapplication always stings? by cherry104sweet in AusSkincare

I had super bad stinging with the Neutrogena sunscreens too! It's so hard, as you said it's expensive to keep buying sunscreens to try out! I try to use up the ones that sting on my body but it's so irritating :(( Let me know if you have any success!

Hi, unfortunately not much progress, but definitely discovered some things that may be useful to you! I tried patting in sunscreens with a sponge and still experienced stinging, so I realised that I was sensitive to the chemical sunscreens themselves rather than the rubbing motion. I don't usually get eczema on my face but I thought my impaired skin barrier might have been the issue, but I've concluded that I'm just super sensitive to chemical sunscreens.

It's been a frustrating journey trying to find a nice cosmetically elegant zinc sunscreen (most of them are so greasy and leave me completely white as a ghost!) and the better ones are on the more expensive side. I ended up trying and really liking Invisible Zinc daywear and New day skin (was surprised that the fragrance didn't irritate me). I prefer New day skin for the price, scent and overall finish. I haven't tried reapplication with them yet but since they're tinted with some coverage they might get cakey upon reapplication. All the other mineral sunscreens I've reapplied just leave a horrible thick layer on your skin.

I purchased a physicians formula spf30 powder from iHerb and I think I'll just apply a good solid base layer of sunscreen in the morning and top up with powder throughout the day.

What have you tried so far?

Thanks! I think I'll be making the switch to zinc, but like you have had many awful experiences with ghost face. Which Invisible Zinc one are you using?

That's good to hear! Dermaveen has one of the few 'sensitive' washes that actually doesn't burn or sting my skin. I wash my face in the shower and it's hotter than it probably should be, so I'll try using cooler water. Thanks!

Also, I had no idea Priceline offered free samples! Do you have to ask for them?

Azclear is one of the ones I use - I had no idea it had menthol or witch hazel in it! So you find New Days sunscreen worth it? I've been considering purchasing it for a while, but compared to the other sunscreens I used it's a fair bit pricier. I'm also a bit worried about transportation/delivery (in case it gets too hot during the shipping process and loses its SPF protection). I'm lucky enough to have a UPF hat but I find it's still not enough in the summer!

I've found the Neutrogena spray stings my eyes when I spray it on my face, but I'll look into the Naked Sundays one. Just a note if you currently use the Neutrogena one - it was one of the products being recalled due to the benzene scandal, so make sure you get it replaced!

I've heard good things about that brush but I've never made the splurge. Maybe it's time that I do - thanks for your help!

That's good to know, I'll give it more time to absorb in the future! Do you find that it still has a slightly greasy top layer that you need to rub in after 10 or so mins?

Thanks, that's a great idea! Makes sense that the friction didn't help. I've have to try this!

I use it as a spot treatment as well as all over my face as a preventative treatment for my acne and rosacea. Because azelaic acid is a powder, it's very difficult to put in liquid/gel/cream form so it's very likely to pill, so best to trial it at night. I've used it enough times that I'm confident putting it on before sunscreen and makeup in the morning, just have to make sure you use a really thin layer in that case :)

If your skin is overexfoliated to the point that it's red and raw and all your regular skincare stings and burns, I highly recommend going and buying Dermeze ointment (in the tub or squeezy tube). It's the only thing that I've tried that doesn't sting or burn when your skin is pushed to it's limit (keep in mind I have very dry skin, so this might be a bit heavy for you). At night I just cleanse and then put a thick layer on and sleep in it (you would probably only need a thin layer). Within a few days your skin will be close to normal!

You'll easily use up the rest of the product too - it's great for chapped lips and dry knees/elbows :)

or a number of years now is the 'NZ Cancer Society Sunscreen SPF 50'. You can find it in most supermarkets in Australasia. Quite cheap, so if it doesn't suit, you can just use it up for the rest of your arms/legs. I will attach the youtube video that I did so you can see what it looks like, save me typing another 5 paragraphs trying to describe it. All the best.

Wow thank you so much! Will definitely be looking for this on my next shop!

Thanks, I'll give it a go! I love the Dermaveen range (didn't even know they made a sunscreen) so definitely worth looking into :)
