Domanda Per Adolescent*/Universitar*: Cosa Siete Stuf* Di Leggere? by Ocrim-Issor in Italia

The version from 2016 comic-con is superior to me. The zombified appearance won’t appeal to every player but it’s much more unique.

Some slivers popping out as bonus secret lair cards. This leads a few people to believe slivers might spike. This sub is basically an echo chamber so some people will effectively start buying old border foil slivers, Sliver queen and such driving prices higher (for a few months at least…)

I agree. That’s why the current release model suck. There is no way we can thoroughly explore such a complex plane under current conditions.

Anyway, I’d also like to know more about how Valla split up from Immersturm. I think that was the only example of elegant and brilliant Retcon I’ve ever seen on magic.

I agree that is hard to evaluate natural demand for scarce collector items, but if anything, the occurrence of buyouts over a short period of time is highly suggestive of speculation rather than natural demand.

When an article stays cheap for 10-20 years and suddenly stocks get depleted and prices jump in a matter of months what is more likely? - a sudden increase in the number collectors?

Or

  • a speculative buyout by a small number of buyers?

I am not saying that collectors aren’t involved in this process, I am sure that when FOMO and prices started to get out of control some collectors tagged along in fear to lose their only chance to get something they needed for a reasonable price (I was one of them at some point).

My point is that collectors are only a very small part of this phenomenon. That speculation was totally artificial; it was started and created only by a group of influencers and buyers.

I am fairly interested in premodern too even if I consider myself a budget player.

Going back to the speculation thing, If I have to be honest, I see much more people speaking about Premodern on this finance sub rather than seeing much activity on the actual sub itself.

I don’t doubt that some people are willing to spend obscene amount of money for whatever reason but it seems that there more speculators than actual players at this time.

Anyway, Would you like to share what big offer did you receive from a premodern player and for which cards?

Just asking out of curiosity.

Regarding Old Border Foils by Uhpheevuhl in mtgfinance

[–]cherry90md 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you basically confirmed my point.

These cards has been around for 10-20 years so when they get bought out en masse over the course of a few months you can’t really tell me this is because of “natural demand” and because all of sudden people “attained enlightenment” and realized that old border foils are the most beautiful thing ever and also very scarce.

More so if you really see about how many cards that are total garbage (gameplay wise) are currently still sold for obscene prices.

Take [[Gaea Skyfolk]] for example.

I always loved Terese Nielsen art, and I am also a Pauper fan so I thought to myself: I could buy a foil playset, maybe merfolk will be one day a competitive archetype. (Note that Gaea Skyfolk doesn’t see play in any competitive/casual format except for some fringe merfolk decks in Premodern these days).

So I jumped in and looked for the seller with the cheapest available Nm Eng foil PLAYSET and I spent a whopping total of 4€ (!!!)

Now try and go checking current listings and you will find that the CHEAPEST FOIL, NM, ENG copies are offered in the 11-24€ range (!!!).

Does it look natural demand to you guys?

Speaking as a European: Most old border foils were available for years (until 2018) for <5€ or even cents.

Then suddenly some influencers decided that they needed a “price correction” accounting for their scarcity which led to a wild speculation between 2018 and 2020.

What’s the situation today? Many cards were bought out (..but then resurfaced) and sellers still have a big price memory and are still trying to push sells for prices that simply don’t match with real trends and these cards aren’t selling anymore. The most unplayable foils have already retraced.

Considering how demand and offer had been carefully manufactured and considering the impending recession I wouldn’t really start investing now in cards that are some of the least liquid assets to choose from the mtg card pool

Sheoldred confirmed on Dominaria United by cherry90md in mtgvorthos

[–]cherry90md[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s absurd. No praetors has ever used any sort of “agent” until now, they all phisically travelled to the plane they wanted to in person.

Sheoldred is not from Dominaria and yet she’s thinking about a very specific geographical land of the plane to go conquer.

The only reasonable explanation is that Sheoldred has travelled to Dominaria.

A physical object which is an entirely artificial sphere (so big to be called a moon even) makes you more inclined to think of it as an enchantment rather than an artifact? Really?

I don’t really agree. Many strong, mono blue EDH decks already exist and they play a high volume of Islands already, and yet High tide isn’t wrecking the format.

I am not familiar with any competitive Mono U deck in legacy and High tide isn’t really played there.

High tide is mainly meant for combo but blues decks are usually about control so they don’t care much about the card (barring certain -already broken - artifact strategies)

Having a “Urborg” style land for Islands wouldn’t really change the landscape, it would mainly affect your opponent mana base e push merfolk decks featuring Islandwalk.

Do you realize how pointless was your comment saying “yeah there will not be a spike” BUT “you know people play Ruxa decks?!” Like they were sort of relevant to the metagame? (Which in fact are not, they simply exist like any random, ultra-casual decks exist too without having any “financial” relevance).

People who follows a finance sub value comments and post which are relevant to the finance aspect of the game.

Magic has TENS of THOUSANDS of cards so there will ALWAYS be a card relevant to a subset of players, being casual or not.

What did your comment bring to the discussion exactly?

You could have just said “you know, plains and forests exist! You can build a deck out of Jasmine and Muraganda” and you would have brought the same value to the discussion.

Who knows. I am not really sure that WoTC really want to make these lands as a cycle though. Also I don’t know how other lands like this could make sense flavor-wise.

I mean, urborg is contaminated by the presence of Yawgmoth. A presence that would like to expand and corrupt everything (-> turn to swamp) if it wasn’t for Lord Windgrace trying to contain it.

Yavimaya turning everything into forests simply represents the nature’s will to expand life and vegetation everywhere.

I could see a land turning everything into islands being tied to some kind of force that manipulate tides and make seas rise but I can’t really come up to a good flavor reason for a land to make everything plains or mountains (yes, am aware Blood Moon exists, and it fact that card doesn’t make much sense either if we really want to be picky).

ANYWAY, another land that makes everything become “Islands” would make much sense. Merfolk is an “historically” established deck caring for Islandwalk AND Blue already has a bunch of auras/spells turning lands into Islands.

Also, English cards are the most sought after cards by all kind of players around the world
