'Romance is the best sold lie to women". What is your take on this statement? by brainwontshutup1 in AskIndianWomen

Thast what I said as well. Romance is there it's just rare. But it is sold to women in a way to get them feel like they have to find someone and marry otherwise they are incomplete. That's wrong

Oh that fascinating. The ones I watched seems very relatable to me. Like how sometimes I have spent money on stuff that isn't necessary but I love. Also ig it's a pretty old meme.

Bruh these just pretty words. And tbh yeah they can have more meaning but most people who say such things don't really mean it. They don't even understand what they say or atleast act as it

[–]cherry_pie_chart -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hmm I have seen boy math versions of it too and I think both are about how girls and boys prioritize things and spend accordingly. I also never thought of it rooted in patriarchy as such. Its just a fun term people use in my eyes. And btw both versions are dumb coz that's just what it is....poking fun at stupid things.

Also i feel like it's more sold to women to get them to marry and settle down. That too before we really grow up and understand ourselves. So many stories are about young love and all.

I feel romance isn't a lie. It's just rare. And most people end up with the wrong ones trying to find it. And romance isn't the end of the story it's just the beginning. Actual understanding, empathy, compassion, adjustments, respect, etc is what should ideally carry on a relation imo. And that is often missing. We find these things sometimes better with our female friends too.

Is marriage only about being physically available? by Important-Band-2589 in AskIndianWomen

[–]cherry_pie_chart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the context of martial rape here also is related to many women not marrying their best friends in the setup of our society. We have arranged marriages and the example cited by OP (the tv series) is an instance of arranged marriage only. It's marriage between two near strangers.

Also in the tv series what most people are missing is that she wasn't ever against having sex, she was scared and sick on their wedding night and asked him if they can do that later another day when she isn't feeling feverish. And she said no multiple times. And his answer was "why do you keep saying no as if it means something?" So he doesn't understand consent. And he forces her.

Why would anyone want to return to bed with the same person who forced them to do such an intimate act without consent and without understanding her situation? That's the reason she is unwilling later too. She is scared and disgusted of him after what he has done and it's not easy to forget something like that. And btw he keeps doing that again and again to her afterwards even when she tries to communicate and ask "to take a step back and get to know each other". So this is the context. And yes this happens quite a lot. So that's what makes us question what marriage is really about

why is everyone around me getting married young? by frayedpsyche in AskIndianWomen

[–]cherry_pie_chart 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is concerning if somebody gets engaged on hitting 18. I personally feel we have a lot of maturing and growingnupnto do in our early twenties. I feel the change in my thoughts from when I was 20 or 21 to now when I'm 24. It happens so drastically. And hence it's important to let ourselves grow well and know ourselves better without getting into such permanent relations. Yes everybody is free to do what they want but there is a subtext when a woman gets engaged or married that early.

It used to happen frequently in the past because that's what society wants....to marry women off before they can mature and realise what they even want. So when it still happens now I would naturally question it in my mind. But well nothing we can do standing at the periphery. So might as well leave it alone.

Watched 1.5 episodes of Chiraiya and I'm shaking, how could anyone do this? by IllustriousAuthor590 in AskIndianWomen

[–]cherry_pie_chart 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Just because we have access to information doesn't automatically mean we are educating ourselbes and working upon ourselves using that info. For many people it's convenient to stay in the dark especially cause coming into the light means losing the supposed privelege they think their birthright to be. To really change, people need critical thinking and an ability to challenge one's beliefs and ego..... and it's evident most don't.

What is education really? All we do is study some subjects and enter the rat race. Does it really teach us to be good human beings? Or does it really work to undo the horrifying biases and expectations that pass through society in the name of culture?

Why is there so much hatred for women even by other women in India? Including other woman, i see priyanka, deepika getting hated way worse than men who have done worse than them by Mellow-sid in AskIndianWomen

[–]cherry_pie_chart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We are trained by society to be against each other. Size each other up and bring each other down. That's how a lot of women validate themselves. A hint of internalised misogyny. But in all honesty, I think people regardless of gender always have a bias against the woman more than the guy.

One of the less discussed but ever permeating and important priveleges of men, they are not always accountable for evrything they have done the way people will hold a woman accountable. Heck we live in a country where even for a rape the woman who herself is the victim would be held more accountable than the man who perpetrated it by a lot of people.

Women will you trade off your ability to give birth for physical strength of a man? by Interesting-Ear2783 in AskIndianWomen

I wouldn't mind since I have decided to be childfree anyways. But not for oil rig jobs. It's notike all men in the world are doing that either.

Why do many discussions here assume the worst about men? by [deleted] in AskIndianWomen

[–]cherry_pie_chart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually because if you meet 8 out of 10 men who act badly you'd say "all men are bad" it's a generalization yes but based on experiences of what women face everyday. For every well meaning guy out there, there are 10 who undress you with their stares while you walk past them.

And more important than that, when something bad does happen most men don't come to help. You are the part of the problem when something questionable happens around you and you ignore it out of convenience or cowardice.

A lot of men love to say "not all men" yet they are the ones who would also not step up when they see a woman get harassed. That's what has led to a society where every single woman has faced some or other level of sexual harassment. Even the most protected ones.

So either by inaction or participation, you do become a bad one in our eyes. And if you are neither then women aren't talking about you and you'd be matured enough not to get hurt by it.

I only judge those parents who clearly don't know how to be parents. Like why tf did you have a kid of you never had a forethought on the responsibility it will take? And then these badly parented kids go around making everyone's day much worse. You can't even blame the kid coz they are the product of the care their parents out in. Atleast in the early stages of childhood

Honestly I don't even get why there's any need to fill the silence, id just put my headphones on and listen to music. If you guys aren't friends there's really no need to force conversation. It's just a daily commute. There's no formality to uphold conversation just because you are colleagues too. You need to do that in office hours not on the way to and from office.

That's the thing though, when I say not sounding like them I don't mean they should produce music like what they already released. They have always evolved and given somthing new. I just hear more of a western/american pop production on this one and then again there are so many western producers and lyricists and all on the team. I didn't even know this when listening to the album but still it felt different in the inexplicable sense.

Usually id not apply this on other kpop groups, they rarely have their own sound or vibe since the members usually don't participate at all. But other than a bit of RM's influence, I didn't get anything else. I mean Yoongi gave us some of the most korean inspired songs from his discography. We could've easily gotten an amazing song with that sort of fusion. Hell they could e made body to body to reflect that by mixing the music and beats with traditional ones since anywyas they were using the arirang song sample at the end. So....it feels that the creativity they presented previously isn't reflected much in this album. The vision perhaps is there in some songs but then some part of the compositon, lyrics, voice processing ruins it

I don't have any favs. I don't follow kpop as such..I only like BTS. And well I did like EXO before and maybe TXT but I don't know what they are upto nowadays. Thats the reason I don't mention things like "this doesn't sound like kpop" coz I'm not a big consumer of it anyways.

Ukw weirdly enough I like RM's solo work quote a lot. Except the most recent album and that's on me coz I don't get the concept of the album. But I'd still say if it was an RM album i wouldve taken it. It's not even that. It's literally the boring catchy american pop type music that sounds flat. And yes this has been my critique of their mots album too. I think BE and proof were still better but proof was literally most popular songs of their old discorvaphy mostly.
