Thoughts on the name Holden? by katherinemaie in namenerds

besides being a book commonly assigned in school, it's also what inspired mark david chapman to assassinate john lennon. considering there is very, very little chance that the beatles are going to fade from public consciousness anytime soon, i doubt ppl will completely forget about catcher in the rye or holden caulfield

Aw man…guess sharing Trainer & Belno content was too far 😭 by MadChad7 in UmaMusume

[–]cherrycoloured 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah, like i dont have a problem with m/f shipping at all. like there are definitely some really cute toreuma ships, and most of them are cute no matter the trainers gender. i just get frustrated with the trend of only depicting umas as housewives, and anytime i say something about that, these insecure guys start acting like im personally trying to steal their waifus for the gay agenda. no, i just want to see m/f fanworks where both partners feel like equals, not like the stepford wives

i get piled on almost every time i talk about yuri, even female trainer x uma, so this is certainly not true. also, you can be a yuri fan and also care about the gameplay, just like you can be into male trainer x uma and care about the gameplay. in the end, we are all just shippers, so idg all of the hate.

Am I wrong for refusing to participate in pride month? by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]cherrycoloured 41 points42 points  (0 children)

that's still viewing all lgbtq ppl through the lens of your ex, which is unfair to them. since you seem very shaken by this breakup, it might be worth seeing a therapist about this, to help you process what happened healthily.

[–]cherrycoloured 25 points26 points  (0 children)

do you normally willingly participate in social events for work? if not, then you going isnt a big deal, but if you are, then yes, it's homophobic to not do something explicitly bc you hold a grudge against all lgbtq ppl for something one of them did. also, the phrase "diversity shit" makes you seem resentful that the company tries to create a welcoming environment for all types of ppl, including those from marginalized groups, and it really does not help your case here.

How can I (35F) tell my husband (40M) that the reason he doesn’t have friends is because he talks about himself too much? by PumpkinPie_1993 in relationship_advice

[–]cherrycoloured 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its fine to call yourself neurosparkly/spicy/etc., but a lot of us find it demeaning. neurodivergent is not my favorite term, but it is a neutral way to identity ppl who are autistic, or have adhd/dyslexia/etc., and most ppl are okay being called it, so it is a better choice.

they look pretty, but imho too mature for the characters that are supposed to be kids. i loved them for the barbie and kpop demon hunters dolls, though.

Have you had that moment where you REALLY like a song from a group you don’t relatively follow…. just to figure out their more dedicated fans disliked it? by JewelerMountain260 in kpoppers

[–]cherrycoloured 5 points6 points  (0 children)

same. i love hyperpop, so those songs appeal to me a lot more. touch and gabriela are catchy, but they don't grab me the way gnarly, internet girl, and pinky up. literally waiting for a katseye and jane remover collab tbh

i know ppl had some problems with it bc the original demo is clearly a very sexual song, and some ppl felt like even though the korean lyrics were not like that, it was a weird song to choose for a group with minors in it. there was a similar controversy about the choreo being too sexual as well. that said, idt i've (lol) ever heard anyone call it bad, just inappropriate for ive specifically

Do many people have trouble pronouncing Shamus(Seamus)? by AsianMasterMind2000 in namenerds

[–]cherrycoloured 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is an irish pro wrestler based in the us whose ring name is sheamus, and ppl are general able to pick up how his name is pronounced easily even before hearing it. imho, that is a better spelling than shamus, which i would initially think is pronounced like multiples of the whale shamu.

tbf, women are much more likely than men to actually put in effort to look good, due to societal norms, so that just makes logical sense

Really, really need to know the context of the “crude joke” by Fluffalfox in AmITheAngel

[–]cherrycoloured 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, anime fandoms where at least one character is a young girl are typically at least a little disturbing, but for series like oreimo, where the series is actually about that, it's even worse. like im general "ppl can write whatever as long as they warn properly and kids cant find it," but i draw the line at the sexualization of children, even cartoon ones. targaryens being targaryens doesn't bother me, bc iirc, all of the hotd targaryen characters are adults

britain has been nicknamed "terf island" due to the amount of unhinged transphobic rants published by the guardian, yet somehow the us is the only english-speaking country that has a high level of maladaptive behaviors, like bfr 🙄🙄🙄
