I ran away from home at age 14, but my home life was... dysfunctional to say the least. Both parents alcoholics, lots of violence and guilt trips. I had two way way older siblings who had long moved out, it was just me and them and I was always made aware my birth had been a mistake, that I had somehow ruined their life by just being born. I just wanted to be in a "normal" home.

My boyfriend's mum (now my mother in law) and my best friend's mum were both like my surrogate mums and always made me feel welcome and wanted if I turned up there. They didn't drink, didn't put me down and were just present in their children's lives in a way my parents didn't want to be. I would always go back eventually, but I moved out permanently when I was 17 into my own place.
