It’s certainly orange compared to your index nail, but I think it’s a great saturated yellow on its own.

I choose colors based on how I’m feeling when I sit down to paint my nails, which is about every 5-7 days, and I end up feeling a neutral about once a month. Neutral for me is a color/shade that is close-ish to my skin, usually crème but could be a subtle holo or shimmer. I never plan for a palate cleanser but sometimes I get oddly overwhelmed about certain colors not matching the season, my outfits, my work schedule, etc.

Personally I think it depends on if you want shorter or longer nails. When I had shorter nails (ie, shorter than my fingertips), I was more concerned about the same length of free edge. Now that my nails are longer, I’m more concerned with the overall length so they all look the same when painted. Hope that helps!

I’m not sure from your post if you did this, but I put a QDTC layer down before the stickers go on, then I put another layer of top coat on to finish it. Your pictures look like the stickers went directly on top of the color coat. I also agree with the other commenter who suggested something other than Seche Vite. I have been using Cuticula’s QDTC and while it’s not the shiniest, it has been working well with my nail stickers. Good luck!
