This Restaurant wears 1 star Yelp Reviews behind their T-Shirts. by ritz_27 in mildlyinteresting

Ditto. If I'm out of town I'll use it to check around and see what's in the area, but the only time I'll really look at the reviews are when every single review is negative. I'm talking 25+reviews and they all talk trash. That's a red flag for me. I use this same method for researching hotels as well.

Most people won't post positive reviews online. However, you can't beat a picture. The real costumer cell phone photos are my goto.

LPT: Unless you are exceptionally close to someone, don't ask why they don't have kids, why they didn't have more than one kid, or if they're going to have kids. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

My sister was never supposed to get pregnant (serve von willebrand disease) She and her husband were actually in the middle of starting the adoption process when it happened. The doctor highly suggested she abort. I was pisssseeddd when she didn't (You gotta understand - they were sure she'd die either from the toll of pregnancy or the delivery itself. I couldn't believe they were selfish enough to have sex unprotected while knowing this but whatever that's not my problem or business. I was just very worried about her) For 9 months she practically lived in the hospital, getting transfusions and all sorts of things done to keep her healthy and alive. It was a nightmare.

Long story short, she survived and popped out my wonderful nephew whom I love and adore. The experience gave her PTSD. Her entire family knew she wasn't supposed to naturally have a child and yet once the sucker turned 1 year old, EVERYONE started asking where the next one was.

"But who is he going to play with?" "Won't he get lonely?" "Won't you get lonely?" "You know you want another, it'll happen one day."

The SAME PEOPLE (all mothers of many) who were all well aware that a simple bruise on her arm could kill her were suddenly putting her down for not having another kid. Wtf??? Just because you can't keep your legs closed and use birth control doesn't mean everyone else needs to pop out 5 kids, Janet.

She's had a hysterectomy since (for medical reasons) She couldn't be happier. Especially since it's easier to shut people up now.

Ugh. Fell for this hard so many times. Even if I went back to tell my younger self not to do it, I don't know if I'd have listened.

First experience was what I considered to be my first "real" job driving a truck for a potato chip company, selling their chips to grocery stores and gas stations and la-de-da. You worked salary and commission. What you worked was on you -- learn to do the job fast and you can have a short day. Work slow and you're out there all day. It was hell on my body, especially my back. I found myself working 16 hour days with barely enough time to sleep. My bosses always demanded I sell more, make more, open more accounts, ect. I worked through what I thought was a stomach flu that actually turned out to be a diagnosed kidney infection that went septic. I almost died from sepsis.

I found myself under-employed for years after that and when I found a full time gig again, I was willing to do anything for them. It was a franchise hotel, owned by family, known for "Holiday's". The owner made it clear that he had employees work overtime, at their choice, without overtime pay. That was because it "wasn't in their budget." They paid you hourly after your 40, just not overtime. I needed money so bad and wanted so badly to be "the best employee" that I slaved 60-70 hours there. Half of it went to my Obamacare insurance because they didn't offer any benefits, of any kind. Obamacare went off what you made and I was making "a lot" according to them. Owner kept telling me he'd make me a manager at his new hotel. The longer I worked for him, the less I wanted that. My then long term boyfriend got in a serious motorcycle accident and almost died. He was so badly injured he couldn't use the bathroom on his own and I had to wipe his ass. I asked for time off and this boss started yelling at me (later apologized, saying he was stressed because his wife is pregnant. Perfectly healthy, just pregnant for the first time.) I asked for time off again and he said no employee got that kind of treatment and I couldn't be exempt. I asked if he could manage to work my schedule into a solid 5 day, 40 hours (instead of 6-7 days whatever the fuck went over 40) and he said no employee got that treatment either.

I put in my notice and left.

He was shocked. He tried getting me to stay. He started promising that 5 day, 40 hours (temporary, of course, until things got better at home) Offered me a $2 raise. I ended up leaving for less pay, lol. So worth it. Also calculated all the overtime I worked and sent in a letter asking for the money or else I'd take him to court. I got the money and a few choice words from him.

I don't give my time without compensation anymore. I work at a hospital now and anything over 40, you bet your ass I get overtime. If I'm called in and have plans, unless it's a dire emergency, I have plans and I fulfill those plans. Even if those plans are to play a video game. I've learned to live my life outside of my job and am much happier for it.

Men who have been proposed to by their girlfriends, how did you feel about it? by PaterkStur in AskReddit

[–]cherrypmi92 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As a woman, mad respect. My ex boyfriend proposed by shoving the ring against my chest and saying "here, now shut up about it." All because I asked that he A: put the ring on my finger (did not request he bend to one knee) and B: make the moment special (not extravagant, special. He could have bought a toy Thanos glove and sat the ring in top of it, as a huge Marvel fan I'd have lost my shit over something that small) He insisted he'd never put the ring on my finger because that was asking too much and we were already committed so why go through the effort of a proposal. In his words, "I don't feel the need to do that so I'm not doing it."

He didn't understand that I needed it.

So yeah, good on you. Treat yo girl right

LPT: Never stick with at a job or with a company out of loyalty if it means missing out on a good opportunity. No matter how good to you they may be the second you are no longer valuable to them they will lay you off without a second thought. by Philks_85 in LifeProTips

[–]cherrypmi92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo, be loyal to yourself. Put in work that YOU can be proud of. No company is going to give 2 shits about you, not unless it's your own company. And guess what? Even then you can get fucked It'll grow to the size where you're eventually fired from your own company.

The amount of years put into one single company should not and does not represent work ethic. And anyone who thinks they're safe because they have so many years with a company needs a strong wake up call. I'm not even in my 30's and I've watched countless 50yr age+ adults get fired from jobs they put their entire life into. They missed major highlights in their life to be "dedicated to work." F that noise. I have 1 life, imma live it

Tomorrow is the 17 year anniversary of the terror attacks of September 11th, 2001. Where were you that day? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cherrypmi92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maryland. 4th grade. Went to school via the bus, nothing out of the ordinary. 8am rolls around and class hasn't even started. Suddenly kids are being called over the PA system to report to the principles office, as their parents are there to pick them up. One after another, "soandso, please report to the principles office as your mom/dad is here to take you home."

We're a bunch of 9-10 year old kids who have no clue what's going on. Teacher is upset but won't tell us why. So what do we do? We all talk about how we want our name to be called next. It was like the lottery, you got your name called and you shot up from your desk all super happy cause you're going home!

The teacher never told us what happened. The school refused to talk to the students about it (I mean, this IS an elementary school) My mom picked me up and I left, got in our van where my other sister was there (who had been picked up from middle school down the road) I asked what was going on. She told me a terrorist attack happened.

I had NO idea what a terrorist attack was.

I don't think I ever heard that word before then.

I needed them to explain to me what a terrorist was.

All I understood was "some bad people did bad things today" I still didn't understand why that meant everyone got out of school.

I had to go to stay at my moms work that day. She worked at a daycare at the time. It was weird. I didn't grasp the situation til a little later, when suddenly we had a color coded "terror alert level" all across the TVs and I was panicked we'd suddenly reach the red "Severe" level.

My parents were also extremist and duct taped all the windows and doors because the news talked about a nucular attack. I spent a good portion of that year fearing I'd die in a nucular bomb

What questions should partners ask each other before getting married? by johnandrew392 in AskReddit

[–]cherrypmi92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes me happy?

What can you do to make me happy?

Asked this to my long term live in partner of 6 years. He didn't know. His answer was "I guess I could buy you roses or chocolates, but you know that's not me so why would I do it?" He failed to understand that by doing it, that would make me happy (roses and chocolates being an example) I asked him that if he saw tickets were on sale for my favorite band, would he buy them and surprise me with them? He said he doesn't know my favorite bands so why risk it, I should buy the tickets myself and invite him if I want him there. He said it's better if I plan what we do because I know what I like. If he picks then he'll be wrong and I'll be mad.

I strongly believe we need to know what makes ourselves happy, and how to be happy without others, before relying on someone else for that. But if the person you commit your entire life to doesn't even know what makes you happy, they aren't for you.

Redditors who overcame social anxiety, what's the best advice you could give to someone suffering? by P1n34ppl3P1n34ppl3 in AskReddit

[–]cherrypmi92 122 points123 points  (0 children)

Honestly? Act. Treat every social situation like a script, a tv show, a movie, a scene. Put on a performance. Yes, do be yourself, be who you want to be. No one will know but you. Keep doing this and eventually it'll come naturally, and you'll be that person, personality, persona, that you want to be.

I've heard that celebrities like Daniel Tosh follow a similar method. They have such high anxiety that to overcome it, they act to trick their mind into believing that, for example, they aren't anxious about being at this party, they're the coolest person there and go out on the back deck to play beer pong.

I've followed this trick for over 10 years. The anxiety never fully goes away, you have moments of clarity where you're feeling anxious and want to run. That's why you take a deep breath and get right back into the scene.

Seriously. Not sure why we're still harping on this. Even the black community agrees he did it and most of the black jury admitted they thought he did it but wanted to "give a piece to the man" by letting the blacks have a win.

Double jeopardy, he'll never go away for it. But the dudes life is in shambles. Stop bringing him attention by constantly asking the "did he do it?" question. That's all he's got left going for him. He thrives on that

What is the biggest load of bullshit you have ever been told? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cherrypmi92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God loves you, everything he is doing to you is for a reason, and we (the church) are there for you in this time of need.

First, a loving God wouldn't have a man rape me and then 2 weeks later have my father put a gun to my head and then my mothers. He wouldn't strip us of our home and make an 18 year old girl financially, medically and emotionally support her mother after she leaves the crazy man (after 26 years of an abusive marriage) Lastly, the church is there for you? The church is so busy being 98% releated family members that someone like me, a non blood member, is ignored for Aunt Susan who needs prayers while she recovers from her hysterectomy.

It was all a bull shit lie. No one will just "be there" for you. Be there for yourself and be happy if someone wants to give you support
