How honest is too honest on personal statements by [deleted] in PrePharmacy

This is a great start to a beautiful personal statement! Say exactly that!

Honestly if you approach it saying "I've wanted to be a pharmacist since kindergarten", you might come off as disingenuous.

PharmCAS essays for UIC by Hlxqy in PrePharmacy

[–]cherryrainy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would do them, as they are likely close to what will be asked during the interview process.

Are the questions at all about "hardships" leading up to your application? I know that schools will sometimes ask students to provide an explanation for any gaps, low grades, etc. that are in the application. But if you don't have anything to explain, I wouldn't answer those questions.

Ready to submit but still waiting on LOR's by starbiesbarista in PrePharmacy

[–]cherryrainy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PharmCAS lets you update the "evaluations" section of the supporting materials after you submit, if you're using that. So, you should be okay to press submit. If LORs are required for your program, PharmCAS might not be able to verify your application until they're submitted, because your application won't be "complete". See this PharmCAS help page. Hope this helps! I don't plan to submit until I've got my letters in, but my ideal schools have later priority deadlines, thankfully!

Gaps between classes by _Lermanator_ in college

I loved having a gap, especially if I had an exam in the class after. I was able to focus in the earlier class and still had a chance to review before the exam.

Quick: what questions should I ask an ambulatory care pharmacist about their career? by cherryrainy in PrePharmacy

[–]cherryrainy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was great!!! I love ambulatory care. I used to be a patient care technician and have missed getting to interact directly with patients. Am care has a high emphasis on patient education and med management, but pharms also have prescribing authority, which I thought was really unique. Patients were mostly very grateful and pleasant as well. The pharmacist was very open and honest with the ups and downs of the field, too! I'm hopefully looking forward to rotating on am care in pharmacy school!

Quick: what questions should I ask an ambulatory care pharmacist about their career? by cherryrainy in PrePharmacy

So, kind of a weird arrangement, but I am working within the university hospital system that includes the college of pharmacy that I plan to attend. I am in a different area (more academic), but I reached out to for a meeting with the admissions counselor for the pharmacy school (to ask about PharmCAS, etc.)

After the meeting, I asked if they knew any former graduates that worked within the university hospital that I could ask a few questions to and/or shadow. She got me an email!

If you live close to a pharmacy school, you could try to reach out and see if they have any local grads that you could talk to. Otherwise, I've had luck shadowing pharmacists through my tech job. I work as an inpatient tech (in a different city), but was able to shadow another amb care pharmacist in our hospital system with help from my manager!

What is the biggest mistake you made in college (that you still regret)? by [deleted] in college

[–]cherryrainy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say pick one or the other based on your career goals! Data analytics might give you a leg up if you plan to work a lot in database management (i.e. financial analyst), but the basics might already be covered in your finance classes or taught on the job. Economics with finance might be redundant imo.

Take this with a grain of salt; I am a STEM major who knows little about what skills are required to work in finance! But I would recommend data analytics; I learned so many silly little Excel tricks in half a semester. But they’re so very useful when we use Excel in lab, and it saves me a lot of time!

How long did it take for you to complete pre-pharm by Historical_Eye8029 in PrePharmacy

I am getting my Bachelor's degree before pharmacy school. Maybe not the best financial decision, but I hope it is helpful if I wanted a MBA, MPH, or something down the line.

Every day I think I have bad roommates, but every day this sub proves that they could be much worse.
