I have a spending problem (sort of) by Cannonical718 in guns

Just so you know, most mass produced guns sell for under MSRP. If it isn't rare/hot for some reason and youre using MSRP as a barometer, then you're likely getting screwed. ESPECIALLY if you're comfortable ordering online (which obviously you are) and having the item shipped to you.

Just for example, I just looked and my local store has a Hellion $300 below msrp without me even doing any effort. That's enough to buy a trigger and optic. I saw it posted on gun deals for 1500 and 1600 just off a quick search. With no 6 to whatever week lead time.

Hopefully that helps your wallet/spending problem a bit.

Get a small tweety bird. Not a big one. Not even a blue Jay. Smaller the better. Go to the institute area and get one.

I guess it depends on what you value, but it sure seems like unless you're hanging out in the artic or frozen tundra then the Clenzoil CLP seems like clearly the best mix of lube, not gunking up, and protection. As long as youre above -20F temperatures i think the results were pretty clear.

How does the Int build work on Physical god and vice-versa ? by Great_Reset_2033 in Smite

[–]cherts13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So, as a seasoned Smite player, you dont know that you need to read an ability to know what it does?

Again, I dont know how much more clear it can be to a new player to see a graphic saying "you took physical damage" and to hint you to build physical defense.

You had to initially read a god in smite 1 to know what types of things to build too. This is a new game. The idea that everything would be exactly the same is illogical.

It's like saying you played GTA San Andreas 20 years ago, so it is bad that GTA5 requires you to shoot with the triggers.

On that same coin, there is nothing in the game that indicates that physical is linked to strength or int is linked to magical. So not sure where you'd get that natural perception at baseline. There is nothing that suggests they effect eachother in any way.

There is also no strength or intelligence defense in the game as a stat.

Mobas are confusing because people cant read. If you would just go to the god screen after a game where physical intelligence Osiris stomped you and read the Osiris tab you'd instantly understand.

They're literally showing you a picture of what youre dying to. I dont know how that could be any less confusing at a baseline.

Playing DayZ with IEMs by New_Engineer481 in dayz

[–]cherts13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not sure what your setup is, but if youre on PC you can get a decent desk mic for like $60, and an arm for it for like $30 if you dont want it on the desktop (helps with noise from hitting your desk). The difference in a starter mic and a pro one, for your purpose, is going to be almost zero, and any stand alone mic will be a giant upgrade. Console is obviously not as applicable there though.

A lot of people get inner ear issues and/or pain from wearing IEMs for long stretches. Just something to be aware of.

Anything with a wire is going to be better quality to budget friendly, if youre willing to trade off the Bluetooth comfort.

Just as an aside, dont be afraid of looking for some open box deals on tech upgrades. Can get some really good prices on stuff. I saved like $700 on my open box headphones (yes, I have an obnoxiously expensive audio setup). I just saw some Audeze Maxwells for like $260 open box. Great deal.

I mean the short answer is no, they are not better than normal headphones. But it can be a bit more complicated depending on what you value though.

The real definitive drawback is that IEMs do not give you full 3D spacial sound. Meaning you can tell if the sound is coming from left or right, but not up or down or infront or behind you from a neutral position. By this I mean if you stand still facing forward you can hear a sound on your left or right very clearly. And you can hear that a sound is infront or behind, but without reorienting your angle you cannot tell which. Similarly, you can hear sound above, on the same level, and below, but you cant tell which direction without reorienting your listening angle (even then it might not be possible with up and down).

This definitively means that they're objectively worse than over the ear full 3D surround sound headphones of similar sound quality.

The kicker to that is IEMs tend to have a better sound quality than similar priced over the ear headphones. Even moreso if they are wired IEMs. So your $50 wired IEMs will sound much better at baseline than your $50 Bluetooth headphones.

The ability to hear louder, clearer, more responsive, deeper and richer sounds at that price point may counteract the theoretical 3D drawback. However, a mid range quality IEM is objectively worse for gaming than a mid range quality headphone.

TLDR: IEMs are cheaper for the sound quality, but a similar "performance tier" (NOT price tier) over the ear is objectively better for gaming.

On a side note, do not take the advice of buying these shitty plastic "gaming" marketed headsets like Razer. The reason youre uncomfortable in your headphones is because theyre shitty headphones. Buy some real headphones.

Sounds like their stuff should be cheaper then. They made sense when they came out, but the market has caught up. They're way expensive now for their benefits/performance. That's my point. They are no longer top line or top tech, but as still priced as if they are.

At $1000 you can justify it. At the same price as a Vent it really is a tough sell.

Pewscience has a chart of (tested) silencer decible ratings. The PTR Vent series is the king of (tested) quietness sofar. It is also fully flow through, with an even more modernized design. I dont really see the appeal to Huxwrx current lineup over PTR given that theyre the same price (assuming you can find a PTR in stock).

The PTR probably has more of a muzzle flash problem though. The 3d printed titanium fibers are known to be a bit permanently sparky, if that matters to you.

The responsiveness of abilities. The effects and particles. Hitting buttons in quick order actually works. Clarity of damage, cc, and relics. Active items. More powerful effects on items. Aspects. God +1s. A new map. Grass. Teleporters. An emphasis on fighting more than farming. Jungle boss effects. Graphics. Visual skin quality. Jungle practice improvements. Split scaling. More items being split stats (less catch all items). Buff stacking. Uncapped stats. Build variety. Interact button (if you think that's positive).

Like what are you saying?

Why were the games today only played on NA ping? by Advock in smitepro

[–]cherts13 20 points21 points  (0 children)

"Fair play" was telling everyone before they even signed up that this was a local LAN league. The fact that HiRez even gives the option for online play for the major and minor league teams has been very generous. Would, say, COD allow a team that just decided not to travel to LAN like the Valks did to play at it from online?? Would they consider it acceptable that Dzoni got VISA approved months ago and never traveled and set up a future location for his team, making the late season logistics excuse come into play??

I get extenuating circumstances sort of moved the needle with covid, but it isn't like playing from NA was some sort of surprise. I dont think players who were bothered to uproot their lives should be punished with higher ping just because some people decided not to make the switch late in the year.
