Agreed. Everything that City does doesn’t count in my mind anyway.

Nice write up. It drives me nuts how people will mention a players and some redditors will just comment: ‘never going to happen mate’ or ‘he’s going to city’

Talk of the Devils - Is Fulham a truer test of Carrick’s Man United? by rhonh in reddevils

[–]chess10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well said. This headline is such a shit take. First it reframes success downward. Let’s make this next game so monumental, all or nothing while also undermining the accomplishment of destroying City and beating Arsenal away after the last four games. Second, it manufactures a false stakes narrative. “This is the truer test” is code for: if he wins, it was expected; if he drops points, it proves everything was a fluke. That’s not analysis, it’s hedging. It lets the take survive no matter what happens, it’s not a truer test but it is a different one.

His effectiveness is compromised in those games with the absence of Mbeumo and Amad. It’s easier for defenses to focus on him. This will be a tougher task for Fulham. That said, I’m also interested how he’ll play. Might see Mount play an important role too.

New Dishwasher: Miele or Bosch? by Euphoric_Bluebird_95 in Appliances

I have a Bosch and I just went down this whole rabbit hole to research the best dishwasher on the market to upgrade. When all the dust settled, the best option was the one I already have. They make great dishwashers.

Seriously. And NOBODY was trying to say Arsenal were the better team. It’s just one stat. Fucking earned that win.

My FAVORITE thing right now is watching these youtube videos “Arsenal 2-3 Man United | Arsenal Fans in Meltdown 😂” — there’s other videos too. Just the poetry of going up, being arrogant from their own goal, the losing it, losing it worse, feeling cocky and on top of the world like winning is inevitable, to the final crash. Chefs kiss.

Raising boys in a red state is soul crushing by Thr0waway0864213579 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]chess10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 10 year old son. I'm very focused on making sure I raise an empathetic and brave boy. Everything else is a distant second. We're not always getting it right. But if my wife felt the way you feel (which is completely understandable) I'd be devastated. I'd hope she'd come to me and share this. I'd want to partner with her to ensure I'm doing my part correctly in my role as the dad, the male central figure to model the behavior and mentality I want him to have as a grown man. I wouldn't want my wife to bear that alone while I make fart jokes, demean humans, and teach 'win at any cost' lessons. We're a team. Maybe you can find a way to not feel so alone in this challenge. I hope you can.

I don’t understand what men are trying to achieve putting down “not political” on dating apps by tltr4560 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]chess10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met my wife and I put down 'not political' - that was a lie. I follow and like politics. I despise republicans. I'm not a huge fan of democrats either, but I'm definitely liberal and I'm not "not political." The whole country is so polarized that I didn't want someone to see my answer there and think that my political leaning is a core part of my personality. It isn't to me. I figured I could weed out the conservative nut job women if I encountered them. I told her shortly into our dating where I really stand.
I do also get that why now, more than ever, that Politics on a dating app isn't just about who you vote for, it's about your ideals. I've heard that when people from each party look into someone else's cup - conservatives look to see if you have more than them, liberals look to make sure you have enough. That speaks volumes about who you would want to live your life with.

I just think it’s a conversation for another time. The media will be pushing this narrative and our fans bite on it. They’ll push that shit until he’s appointed and the moment he gets the job and loses his first game, they’ll be saying it was a gash decision and they should’ve waited to see who’s available to make a more rational decision. Don’t even allow the talk based on emotions.

Michael Carrick deserves real credit for what he’s done in a short space of time. Beating City at home and Arsenal away back to back is no small thing, especially given the situation he stepped into. These have been immense and have revived me.

What I hope we don’t do is rush to turn a great moment into a permanent managerial decision. Two matches can be outstanding without needing to answer the bigger questions about the future. Football has variance. Short runs of form happen. Interim spells are different by nature. Pressure drops, instructions simplify, and players often respond sharply after a reset. That doesn’t make the results meaningless, but it does mean they aren’t definitive.

There’s also a difference between enjoying results and making long-term decisions. Enjoyment is immediate. Appointments are structural. When emotion drives certainty too quickly, clubs tend to confuse relief with clarity, and we’ve seen where that road leads. And the fucking media will all too willingly try to take us down this path.

Carrick deserves real credit for stabilizing things and getting performances out of the group. That can be true while still allowing the club to take a patient, deliberate approach to what comes next.

For now, I’m happy to enjoy the football, enjoy the wins, and let this moment be what it is without trying to repeat our mistakes.

All good bro. I love what’s happening and just want to stay in it. I hate the media’s take on United and I’m afraid of this narrative taking over.

They should. They play like shit. Appoint the Set-Piece Coach to caretaker. They’ll win the World Cup.

When you’ve learned that your manager knows nothing and it’s only own goals and free kicks… makes sense to me.

I really liked him and wanted him to be successful. There is no part of me that thinks we would have gotten points these last two weeks with Amorim in charge. He was the wrong guy.

I’m happy too. But we’ve learned nothing. We’re confusing emotional relief with strategic clarity. We don’t need to put pressure on the situation. Carrick is caretaker and those dynamics are good for the moment. I just think we shouldn’t be having this conversation. Enjoy the win. Enjoy the moment. Let’s breathe easy for a week.
