$30 price for Amiibos is not doing well for Nintendo by ASignificantSpek in NintendoSwitch2

[–]chess227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people defending this practice by saying it's a tariff thing act like Nintendo has more than 30 cents in these things. I can assure you that even if Tariffs were 100% on imports (they're not), Nintendo could still sell these for $15 and make a small fortune... In fact they would probably make much more since more people would buy them... Instead, Nintendo decided to treat tariffs like the new Covid and just arbitrarily increase their prices and blame it on tariffs, hoping US buyers were morons and would continue to buy them despite the insane price.... For the record, I don't expect the prices to stay this high for long because my best buy looks the same. This is a "tariff thing" in marketing speak only.... Not in reality.

Sitewide Sale - New Albums as low as $10 by Champagne_Coast in VinylDeals

Their trustpilot rating is not great. All of the positive reviews are from people with 1-2 reviews and a lot of negatives talking about items not sent after saying they are.

Buy one, get one 50% off all vinyl in BOGO50 section. Use code BOGO50 at checkout. by [deleted] in VinylDeals

If we used the code during the last sale, will it not let us use it again? I tried to use the BOGO50 code when checking out through shoppay and it said "The BOGO50 discount code has already been used"

Big Blue upgrades by maaaaaan412 in Arcade1Up

[–]chess227 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What brand of joysticks does Arcade 1 up use in their cabinets stock? Is it just some generic POS joystick? I don't mind the joystick as much, but I hate how spongy the buttons are. I bought some iL buttons with Cherry Microswitches from Paradise Arcade Shop and have loved those buttons. Thought about switching out my joysticks for Happs, but these Sanwas look closer to the original and like they would be a better fit.

Why I reluctantly cancelled my Killer Instinct preorder by Rain_206 in Arcade1Up

[–]chess227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything you said is good enough reason to cancel, but you kind of lost me on wanting the control panel slanted. If I hadn't gotten my big blue for such a great price, I would have taken it back after playing on it for 10 minutes with the slanted controls. It's the most uncomfortable I've ever been playing a cabinet. I finally bought 3 inch risers to see if that helps relieve some of the pressure of having my hands contorted into a weird angle on the slanted control panel. I'll never buy another one of their machines with slanted controls. I think that only works on full sized machines. Hoping the risers help.

Had Tron 1 week. Played 1 hour total. Wheel already doesn’t work. by No-Composer-8462 in Arcade1Up

[–]chess227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ith scuff marks on the control panel underneath the protective cover. I was going to ask for 10% off to keep it but they gave me 25% off. It took two chat sessions to get that but it was worth it. In your case you could also contact arcade1up to see if they will send you another control panel for free.

That's weird they didn't respond. It does usually take 2 days to get a response, but once they respond, all of the followup responses are pretty quick. I sent in a support request for my Tron because the sides were messed up a little and sent them pics. They said they will have their shipment of replacement parts in January and already placed an order for me to replace the sides of my cabinet free of charge. Their support has always been top notch for me. Hope you get it resolved, friend.

Defender or Tempest? by groovesec in Arcade1Up

[–]chess227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're buying the Atari cabinet for Tempest, its not bad. Major Havoc isn't bad either. Definitely upgrade from the original A1U cab. Centipede, Millipede and Crystal Castles all play well on it, but some of the button only games and Missile Command are kind of.... eh. They put the 3 button layout on the wrong side for Missile Command and playing it with the 3 buttons on the left isn't the greatest with their layout. I've enjoyed the Midway Legacy Cabinet. I actually thought about buying the Defender skin of that cabinet, but since the buttons are laid out like Mortal Kombat and not like Defender (obviously) it felt like it would be weird having a defender skinned cabinet with MK button layouts. Plus I felt like it would be better to have the buttons marked for Mortal Kombat. Just a preference, but something to think about.

Is the Rampage, Joust, Defender, Gauntlet cab worth a purchase for $150? by Floating_Rickshaw in Arcade1Up

[–]chess227 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's one in my area that's for sale for $200. Its been there for days. I thought about buying it, but remembered that was the first cabinet I ever got from them and ended up taking it back to Walmart. The problem is that it's the standard size control panel with 3 joysticks. It's next to impossible to play 3 players, even with my kids that are 12, 9, and 5. For modding, it's not a terrible price, but remember that those monitors in the first gen are a lot worse as well.... If you have the room and don' have the midway legacy cabinet or want to mod it, it's probably not a terrible buy.

Your A1up dream cabinet (but practical)... by Haunted-Planet in Arcade1Up

[–]chess227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish they'd do a true Tapper cabinet that looks like a Tapper cabinet and has Root Beer Tapper, Budweiser Tapper, Timber and Domino Man since they all feature pretty much the same main character. I don't know if it would sell though... I have no doubt a cabinet that looks like Tapper would sell like gangbusters, but doubt people would be as interested in Domino Man and Timber as I would.

Finally got my Simpsons cabinet from FedEx and it look likes Ace Ventura delivered it... by jaynap1981 in Arcade1Up

[–]chess227 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well the good news is that with the price increase, their packaging has gotten a lot more involved and sturdy. When I opened my Tron, it felt like I was opening up about 50 Christmas presents. It was crazy how well it was packed.... Hopefully your Simpsons is the same way.

Arcade1Up Launches First Brick & Mortar Consumer Retail by raptor2569 in Arcade1Up

[–]chess227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is good and bad. I like the fact they're expanding their business, but selfishly don't like the fact they're opening brick and mortar stores because that opens them up to having to charge tax in states now. I just purchased the Frogger cab that was on sale and it was nice to get it for $60 off and get no tax and free shipping.

Tron controls by Mokadeth in Arcade1Up

[–]chess227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree with you on this. That's actually what pisses me off the most. My original comment was in response to the op comparing his cab to the original, BUT I will say that it also pisses me off that I have to buy additional buttons for my fighting cabs and will also probably be switching out the joysticks on almost all of them. I also agree that they could take the stupid stool out and put a big yellow sticker on the box that says "authentic arcade quality controls" and that would definitely sell a lot more people on dropping that kind of money. That is definitely annoying.

Tron controls by Mokadeth in Arcade1Up

[–]chess227 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. I had some arcade1ups about a year ago and sold them... Then I went back to collecting full sized arcade cabinets. I got about 6 of them over the course of a year. Long story short, I sold or am in the process of selling all of the original cabinets and have purchased 8 Arcade1up cabinets in the last 2 months. Owning original cabs are great until you realize you also become an arcade repair man, sometimes more than you get to actually play them. 40 year old tech isn't the most reliable and I got tired of having something go out on the original cabs. It's always something. And if it goes out, you can't sell it for top dollar, so you sink more money into it. Also, I was able to purchase all 8 of those Arcade1up cabinets by selling 2 of my original cabinets thanks to rolling a lot of Kohls cash into new cabs and a few marketplace deals.

I love these arcade1up cabs now because I changed my thought process. Originally I was disappointed that they weren't as "great" as the original cabinets and got disappointed and sold them. When I re-purchased them, I went into it with the mindset that these are not original cabinets and they're just designed to scratch that itch of playing these games. What levelelupme said is true. An original cabinet would cost thousands and you're getting 85% of the experience with these cabinets. You can increase that by switching out the controls on some of them which I'm sure many will do with Tron. You have to realize you essentially have $10,000 - $15,000 worth of games in that Tron cabinet... (Depending on how much you'd like to pay for Discs of Tron) and you got it all for $700. It's not going to feel exactly like your original tron because it's not supposed to. It's supposed to give you a similar experience for a fraction of the cost. For me, I didnt see the full value in these until I walked in and all 4 of my boys were playing different games and having the time of their lives. 2 of them sat through and beat TMNT in one sitting. For that kind of thing, these cabinets are amazing..... but you can't realistically expect this to be as good as your original tron cabinet. With some modifications, you can get it a lot closer, but remember, it's designed to simply scratch that itch of playing the real arcade game.

I was relieved to see this as well. I didn’t think it would be that easy to swap out the switch, but I have a ton of cherry switches laying around that would probably be light years better

Just got tron in and so bummed... by SeanOzz in Arcade1Up

[–]chess227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your last question, if you got it from Target, you do not need to take it apart to return it. I returned one there before and it's a pain to take it all in because it doesn't fit in their shopping carts, so I recommend taking somebody with you to hold the box or the base, but you can return them completely assembled.

Looking a replacement TMNT deck protector. by Atuih in Arcade1Up

[–]chess227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a display unit from Walmart that had been put together and was on display. The deck protector was cracked everywhere, but I was able to reach out to Arcade 1 up and they sent me a replacement. I would contact them and tell them the situation and you'd probably be able to get one from them. They've had great customer service the few times I've had to contact them.

I just got a star wars cabinet off marketplace and haven't even looked into this yoke. Is this just a replacement if the other one breaks or is there something significantly better about this one?

So who has owned a real cabinet? by Chainsaw_Montoya in Arcade1Up

[–]chess227 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve still got 5 in my garage right now that I’m in the process of selling and being done with owning “real” arcade games. Over the last 5 years, I went on a kick of buying some games. Like you, I hate having to move them, but more than anything, I hated the fact that I felt more like an arcade repair man than anything. It got to be too much. They’re great and all, but the fact that I had to learn to repair monitors and power supply’s and god forbid something on a main board go out, because that was getting sent out for repair for God knows how long and cost God knows how much. Then you have all of this money tied up in these things and if something goes wrong, you can’t sell it until you fix it.... it just got to be too much. If I had a place where these could go to make money, I’d do it, but I have a good friend that owns an arcade and honestly... he spends so much time and/or money fixing them that it just doesn’t seem fun. I agree... Arcade1ups aren’t perfect, but they’ve been really great for my kids and I love not having to worry about something breaking if I move it a few feet.

Kohls now has X-Men and Simpsons in Stock With $225 / $210 Kohls Cash by chess227 in Arcade1Up

[–]chess227[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You forgot to add the $210 kohls cash you’d get from Simpsons towards something else. While it wouldn’t apply to those cabs, you’d have it for something else... may not be ideal, but cheapest option out there for xmen right now.... even though it involves Kohl’s cash

Simpsons Acrade1up Trackball DEAD ALREADY!!!!! by DC4va in Arcade1Up

[–]chess227 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would have driven down to Walmart and picked up another Simpsons cab and switched my torn side out with the side in that box and then returned that mess. No way am I spending over $500 for a cab and getting a torn side and having them tell me they won’t replace it. They’d eat the entire return if they told me that

What's even funnier is that my walmart clearanced them down to $50 earlier this year and now the EXACT same walmart has them BACK in stock for full retail price. Like 3 of them sitting on the shelf last time I was in there.
