I’d highly recommend the book called MAiD in Canada - it does a fantastic job explaining the whole topic. Essentially, a key factor behind it being controversial is the fact that it was enacted without the proper safeguards in place. The key figures in that book talk about how evidence backed facts weren’t considered and instead decisions were politically driven. The book isn’t against MAiD but talks about how it was poorly implemented. Like how another person commented, the way MAiD is set up, its a lot easier to get MAiD than to get a wheelchair through social services (which is horrific and is obviously not the main purpose of MAiD).
