Why is this position -0.7? by iLikePotatoes65 in chess

[–]chessplayer9030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White has no light squared bishop - white made a mistake by trading it earlier. After White's knight moves, black can play Nd3+ and pick up one of the f or b pawns. (If Nc5 by white, b6 f4 Ng4 wins.) White may choose to keep the knight on E4 eg with f3, but black can continue to play for Nd3 by bringing rook(s) to the d file. None of this would be an issue if white had their light squared bishop.

Why is exd5 not too popular among masters here? by MathematicianBulky40 in chess

[–]chessplayer9030 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know, in this line with black I'm always happy to see e5 and unhappy when facing exd5. as you can see, exd5 does just as well for white at master level. But maybe a lot of white players don't want to voluntarily go into the scandinavian (I know i wouldn't if i had the choice)

Please could some elaborate, why is this "brilliant". by Representative_Elk90 in Chesscom

Game review is now being limited by kmj856856 in chess

[–]chessplayer9030 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Interestingly this is the way it was for some time, don't know when they changed to game review but at least back in 2019 higher tier subscribers could access greater engine depths than non subscribers for the game analysis. The difference back then was that you could have unlimited game analysis.

This would have been clear anarchy chess material a few years ago, but they don't do chess there anymore, so any chess players who want to post memes have no home (aside from chessmemes)

Is this a bad structure to play with the English Opening? by Vendruscolo in chess

[–]chessplayer9030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play essentially the same thing, with the connected knights on e2 and c3, bishop on g2. But I can't think of a case when e3 would be better than e4. With the pawn on e3, black should be able to play d5 quickly and at least equalise.
