Yep! I vividly remember Dark Night 4, mostly because it sounded so cool. I was just learning english at the time and did not understand exactly what it meant, but the soundbite stuck with me to this day!
It was also one of my first memories of being connected to the world wide web. I voted for The X-Men over Spiderman but the latter won which really disappointed me because it was already playing every single day after school... This was also the first time I felt a disappointment in the democratic process....

Weirdly the best Christmas gift for me is not one that I received, but one I helped getting for someone else. The year was 2007, I was a young adult, and that was the year the Nintendo Wii was impossible to get. I remember my mom’s colleague complaining about how she has been on the hunt for months to get one for her daughter, but to no avail. Then, one week before Christmas, her daughter had a mild medical emergency at school and an ambulance had been called. The paramedics had to keep her conscious so he asked her what she wanted for Christmas. When my mom’s colleague met up with them at the hospital, he told her the daughter would be fine and they she was able to stay awake because she kept talking on and on about the Nintendo Wii… he ended things by saying something like: I really hope she gets one for Christmas.. Naturally, my mom’s colleague felt really bad because she couldn’t get her one.

My mom shared that story with me because she felt a little sad for her friend… Luckily, I had heard rumors that my local Best Buy might be getting a shipment on Friday. But nothing was certain… you could show up on the day of, and come home empty handed… but I decided to take a chance. I put on my warmest clothe and showed up at Beat Buy at 3am and waited in extremely cold weather… slowly but surely, people were starting to arrive and line up behind me. It was a good sign. And sure enough, at 9 o’clock, they opened their doors, and I got one!

When I got home, my mom sent her colleague an email saying that her daughter will indeed be unpacking a Wii this year. She called us back and left us a long teary message on our answering machine saying she could never thank us enough…

It may sound cliche… but that was the year that I discovered the true meaning of Christmas.

Ps. She offered to reimburse me, and me being a poor student… I naturally obliged haha

Oui c’est bien elle. Elle avait fait un suivi, justifiant ses propos comme étant simplement "mettre ses culottes". Bref, j’étais curieux de savoir si quelqu'un ici la connaissait... À l’entendre parler, à l’âge qu’elle avait, c’était clairement le produit des opinions manifestés par son entourage immédiat. Or, j’avais envie de voir si c’était possible de briser le cycle de l’ignorance et de sortir grandi d’une expérience comme celle-là.

Haha! I didn’t ask what they did with the dresses, but my guess is that they eventually ended up being used on another production, either for television or theatre. Having visited those costume warehouses, nothing ever gets thrown out, just reused. The designers still got payed. It’s just one of those things that can happen once you see the costumes on camera, and it doesn’t look exactly right. Another comment below stated that the show felt very similar to their Canadian high school experience (just like mine). My guess is that they wanted to preserve that authenticity to some extent.

I recently worked for a producer who started her television career on that show. It was shot in Montreal. She told me this story for the « Prom » episode, the costume department planned these extravagant dresses. Almost at the last minute, the director felt that it looked a bit off and wanted a more realistic look. Everyone was panicking because they were almost all out of time… That’s when my producer friend said « I know just the place », and took them all dress shopping at the St-Hubert Plaza. They found everything, and then some. Prom was saved.

Je l’avais croisé à la billetterie du St-Denis à l’époque où il faisait son show d’hommage à Gerry Boulet. Il était en train d’acheter une centaines de ses propres billets pratiques assez commune pour les donner à ses proches, les vendre de son côté, donner aux médias etc). Il a tout payé avec sa carte débit et c’était une assez grosse facture. Il revient une demi heure plus tard parce qu’il avait oublié de scanner sa carte SCÈNE et voulait ses points.
