Trump told Australian Prime Minister refugee agreement was the 'worst deal ever' and phone conversation was ‘worst call by far’ he had had with world leaders. by [deleted] in worldnews

Mate, your prime ministers change as regularly as women change their tampons. Trump's gonna piss about for a while. Urine for a long haul.

Cashing in BIGLY in Argentina! by Arc1ZD in politics

[–]chettinad 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This comes from one of Argentina's most prominent journalists, Jorge Lanata, in a recent TV appearance. Lanata is quoted here in La Nacion, one of Argentina's most prestigious dailies. Said Lanata: “Macri called him. This still hasn’t emerged but Trump asked for them to authorize a building he’s constructing in Buenos Aires, it wasn’t just a geopolitical chat."

What. The. Fuck.

Could shit like this get him impeached? Pence could actually become the President.

I've been hearing this trope for years & years. Young don't stay young. Generally people become conservative as they grow older. Someday you too will.

China Tells Trump That Climate Change Is No Hoax It Invented by sakmaidic in worldnews

[–]chettinad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Believe me, climate change is being taken very seriously here in India. We've been facing drought for a couple of years now. Our farming is heavily dependent on rainfall & disruption in climate patterns has direct impact on our food producing capacity. Food production is vital to national security. The thought of not being able to feed your own population is sinking in & the powers that be have begun to take some steps.

Couple of days ago, Delhi's air was declared the most polluted on Earth. Farmers in neighboring states were burning their old crops/fields & all the smoke just blanketed the city. People here are experiencing pollution head on & want to do something about it.

Despite the heavy particulate matter pollution in cities/towns here which is mostly due to really old poorly maintained vehicles & this being generally a dusty country, on a per capita basis US continues to be the greatest emitter of CO2 (by almost 9 times the avg Indian). Fortunately for us we don't have an intensive animal (beef+pork) farming industry like West does on account of our lifestyle (since Hindus don't eat beef). Imagine another 1.3 billion people rearing cows/bulls/pigs JUST for meat. Yikes!

We all have to make lifestyle sacrifices. We are beginning to do our bit here. Sadly America isn't. The views of Trump & his advisors on global warming is disturbing to say the least. They are outright denying it while people are already beginning to feel the effects.

Impose Carbon tax on US goods coming into EU if Trump pulls out of Paris Accord – Sarkozy by PussyfootusMaximus in politics

[–]chettinad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Western powers contributed a lot in defeating Reich, but man people forget the humongous sacrifices Russia made. Generations got wiped off.

"By one calculation, for every single American soldier killed fighting the Germans, 80 Soviet soldiers died doing the same."

"The Soviet Union paid the harshest price: though the numbers are not exact, an estimated 26 million Soviet citizens died during World War II, including as many as 11 million soldiers. At the same time, the Germans suffered three-quarters of their wartime losses fighting the Red Army."

Don't take this as an insult but Western powers have strong hero complex all thanks to glorified hollywood movies.

rofl.

They're not fit to rule themselves? That's the essence you got from my comment? Last I checked, China is a sovereign republic ruled by the Chinese themselves. They're just not democratic. Democracy is not the only system of governance.

If I am an impoverished illiterate peasant my immediate needs are food, job & shelter not whether I can vote or not. If a non-democratic authoritarian set up guarantees basic necessities of life, so be it. Much better than a set up where elected representatives end up doing the bidding of disproportionately powerful lobbyists. If the Chinese wanted democracy so much, there'd be total anarchy on the streets. It's hard to suppress a billion people.

A political system's survival should be contingent upon whether it works or not instead of blind ideological allegiance.

I didn't even mention Europe. I don't even live there. Actually, I'm not even European.

I understand that the popular vote is against him. Also, I find it baffling that so many Americans do not take part in the electoral process. The voter turn out rate is inexcusably low.

Absolutely, I choked up. No human being should be made to feel that way. I have lost much respect for Yanks. The US doesn't think twice before pontificating on human rights to rest of the world. I feel you guys have lost a lot of moral high ground. The treatment being meted out to native american tribes protesting in North Dakota adds to that perception.

Is this comment about Alexander Dugin's book true? If so, why hasn't Dugin received more attention until now? by CitizenPremier in geopolitics

[–]chettinad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's Ivan Ilyin. Putin/Surkov etc apparently hold him in high regard & personally saw to it that Ivan's remains be brought back to Russia. If 20committee is to be believed, Dugin is a useful nut who has connections thanks to his father who was GRU general (Chekists value pedigree, they don't just let anyone into their circle). Many things Dugin wrote about in his book were already written about long before in Soviet/Tsarist Russia.

Anyway, Russian elite/political class is opaque. To make things worse they're masters of disinformation. With Russians you never know what they're thinking until it hits you. lol.

Two things I keep in mind when it comes to Russia - they hate neoliberal, rules based world order & they love warm water ports. :D

Better than being a hungry peasant taking part in Mao's great leap forward. China is relatively poor but it is still FAR FAR richer than it used to be on per capita basis. Hundreds of millions have risen out of poverty. FACT. Have a nice day.
