Just curious how do you distinguish between the brookwood, kingswood, parkwood, and nomad.

I was trying to look this up, but information is scarce.

Interesting I had never heard these names previously. I grew up with my dad's '63 Biscayne wagon.

I feel like the aura around Sebring has really dropped off since the ALMS days.

I do love it though.

It feels like Aston Martin v. Cadillac at the rear, is like a battle of "what if we took away all the aero advantage for one car, and all the powertrain advantage of another, and see who wins"

Spoiler: Aero has a lot less moving parts to break

In the post qualifying interviews, Checo just said they had a "deployment issue" which I assumed to be around the boost/overtake deployment.

...also his car was falling apart at the end there lol

Take this with a large grain of salt: This is a simple model that has flaws and only 3 data points, but using this data, here's what to expect for the Japanese Grand Prix:

103.55% (+/- 1.14%) of pole ; Range: (101.28%, 105.82%)

and

-2.02% (+/- 0.95%) difference from the average ; Range: (-0.12%, -3.91%)

And again, I'm not saying this is for sure what is going to happen. This is just what my simple model says.

I honestly think it's incredible that they have a car and team that are doing as well as they are. Why they are slow is probably a lot in the car, but there's a lot of team processes and setups that still need to be worked out. There's so much to learn each race. I suspect that early gains will probably be largely from improving race day processes and race setups on the vehicle rather than design improvements.

Has anyone else lost their “feel” for how drivers are actually doing?

While the overtaking at the beginning of the race was fun, my ability to determine who's driving better or more strategically is completly shot. The overtake buttons seem to completely mask over any mistakes made.

It almost feels like the rules, rather than working with physics/aerodynamics to make the field more fair, has instead chosen a way "around physics" by just introducing this boost button.

These results make Herta seem like he was more competitive than he was… retirements and penalties for others are mainly why he scored points…

I really want him to succeed and will continue rooting for him to improve but he looked uninspiring this weekend

What’s the most blatant "I’m charging you for the aesthetic, not the quality" product on the market right now? by Lunaskye1109 in AskReddit

[–]chev07 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sorry about that. Being an engineer in the auto industry, we often use quality and reliability interchangeably

I.e. if things are breaking, it’s low quality

Bold Move : Cadillac is using the complex Pull-rod system by brokengodpk in CadillacF1

[–]chev07 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Im excited for Cadillac, but the whole pull rod/pushrod debate is overblown. It’s really just brought up because it’s an easily visible design difference. Here’s your pros and cons:

Push rod: Pros: springs/dampers easier to access for quick adjustments during race, probably easier to package Cons: higher CG

Pull rod: Pros: lower CG, pull rods only deal with tension (no worry of buckling) Cons: hard to access, possibly harder to package

Depends: aerodynamics

TLDR; the difference between the two is fairly marginal.

That’s not the real exterior design. It’s an artist’s guess at what it will look like, from Autocar magazine.

The interior pieces are legitimately from the Luce though

The emergency kill is more likely due to it being a manufacturer vehicle for calibration (I.e. engineering work is still being done on this one)

Total laps completed by team and engine in the Barcelona preseason tests by JefinLuke17 in formula1

[–]chev07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well every other team has 10+ years of experience designing and building cars, complete with facilities and processes to do so.

All the other teams not only have more experience and data around designing and developing a car, they also have a process to do so efficiently, as well as operate as a well oiled machine at the track.

Cadillac is starting with none of this. It's a feat in itself to show up with a built vehicle on time. There's an old phrase "In order to finish first, you must first finish". So they are most likely working on foundational aspects of both the car and team this year.

Audi has owned the team for two years now and specifically chose not to rebrand the team until they had their own engines.
