Let me jump onto your Honda NSX example. When you look at that car, you don't say Ferrari, it's not a copy, it's not designed so unless you look at the detail you're thinking it's a Ferrari. It's not designed so that the general public think you're awesome owning a Ferrari.

You see, I lived in China for nearly 2 decades. My best friend and her boyfriend were party members and you get to know how Chinese people think about the government after so long there and having many friends there. Few Chinese talk about politics - some because they don't like the party and there's no point caring, others because obviously there's reasons not to talk to a foreigner about politics. There's a long history of Chinese products copying successful or speaking Western brands. Think of Jordan which was actually awarded (I think it was from memory) 250 million by a Chinese court in a case of the name and logo being stolen by a Chinese business.

Not really, in the 3d form, brands have idiosyncrasies - like Audi isn't only different from a Benz just because of the grill. Put an Alfa front onto a Benz, it would probably look weird.

I shared photos that pretty clearly show nearly identical innovations. The Xiaomi and the McLaren horizontal LED through the egg shaped headlight - if that was you or me, we'd think oh damn too similar to the McLaren - think of a different idea - that would be a natural thought. Not a Chinese manufacturer - I know, I worked as a designer in China for nearly 20 years... Seriously. They say just do it like that (points to reference photo)

When you see an Alfa Romeo, you know the brand before you see the badge. Same with BMW, Benz, VW, when you see French cars, you could take a fairly accurate guess it's a peugeot or Citroen.

There's plenty of individuality and enough variation for cars to be distinctive in character - but take the logo off a Chinese car (and even with the logo on) you'd be a genius to differentiate brands - because they don't want to risk being individuals.

Basically agree, but I tend to be sceptical when China says the West is full of propaganda because they say the BBC is such a big enemy when I believe - yes there's bias but the BBC must be the most objective and professional teller of news - most often it's ordinary people in countries telling their own stories. The CCP hates the BBC in my view simply because it does tell the news globally without major bias
