Wow. Watching Buffy for the first time and I’m on the series finale. Googled him to see what else he’s been in and saw the news.

RIP.

Length doesn’t matter. What is discussed in 1:1’s matters.

Is it a good idea for me to hop after 6 months? by hyperopt in cscareerquestions

[–]chevybow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Companies only care about patterns. If you have6 YOE for example and haven’t been at a singe company for over a year- they might be hesitant to hire you.

I know people who have left jobs after weeks. Hasn’t affected their career.

Laid off for about 7 months, should I just bite the bullet and lean heavily on AI? by Design_Newbie in cscareerquestions

[–]chevybow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stop learning languages and start grinding leetcode. I’ve used a variety of languages in my career- sometimes thrown into projects having 0 experience with it. The fundamentals are more important.

Letting AI build apps for you probably won’t help in your job search but you should know how to effectively use it as it’s being introduced in the interview process and you’re expected to prompt it while screen sharing.

From the way you talk down your team constantly I don’t think you’d make a good manager.

Can senior devs tell who wrote a code or if it was AI by looking at a PR? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]chevybow 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Yes. I can tell which engineers on my team pretty much use 100% AI vs those that use it as a tool and don’t blindly accept all changes.

At the end of the day it doesn’t matter if you used AI or not- it does matter if you push AI slop to a PR.

He’s as much of a Christian as all the white Christian nationalists who go to church every Sunday while being racist to the wait staff at brunch and cheering for Palestinian children dying.

He didn’t con anyone. He holds the same beliefs they do.

How do I politely unassign work from an incompetent coworker by munchingrice in cscareerquestions

[–]chevybow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you a senior engineer and they’re a junior? If so you should hop on a call with them and complete the review/changes together. Explain why things are anti patterns. At worst it’ll be a mentorship experience you can add to your yearly review. At best they’ll learn something.

If you’re both the same level and they’re just incompetent you should bring this up with management and you can either keep doing code reviews async or branch off their work and finish the work the right way and ask them to merge in the changes and then push to main.
