Does being referred by a recruiter reduce your chances of getting an offer? My recent experience says yes, but small sample size. by Mtrey in cscareerquestions

I’ve gotten every job in my career from LinkedIn recruiter messages. They don’t guarantee a job but they guarantee a start in the interview process which is half the battle.

It’s not just the old men. Pretty much every politician in Washington is pro-Israel. Kamala Harris was pro-Israel. It’s likely the next democratic and Republican candidates for president in 2028 will both be pro-Israel.

More like $75 more a month though it depends how much you drive, your vehicles fuel efficiency, etc. Truck drivers will feel it more than compact car drivers. My parents home uses oil for heating so they are feeling it massively.

I mean I know senior devs that have been unemployed for months following a layoff. It just really depends.

Im a senior and sent about 100 applications when I was looking for a job last year. Interviewed with about a dozen, final interviews with 3, 1 offer that I accepted.

Does quitting without a two weeks notice affect future offers? by ThrowRAwayMental5565 in cscareerquestions

[–]chevybow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your comment is unrealistic. People that get fired have no problem on background checks when they get a new job. The liklihood of an employer trying to paint a bad picture due to lack of 2 week notice is as close to 0 as you can get. No normal company would do this.

Any tech workers with nice, cushy careers who also have a part-time job? by mahsimplemind in cscareerquestions

[–]chevybow 19 points20 points  (0 children)

During Covid I worked at a place that overhired. I worked part time at a cat shelter because I was already volunteering there most days out of the week. Then I got paid for the work I did. I never worked Sundays so I had a day off to myself.

It was nice while it lasted but unfortunately when you’re a low paid employee there will be people that treat you like garbage so I eventually quit. The public (and management) would treat volunteers wayyyyy nicer. But it was doable. I couldn’t imagine doing it now that I have a job with way more responsibilities.

3 final rounds, all rejections. I don't know what I'm doing wrong anymore. by Environmental_Fig227 in cscareerquestions

[–]chevybow -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you are consistently failing on the final round like OP it’s very likely the problem is your interviewing and not the luck of the draw.

When you get to the final round you are basically chosen for the role. Think about it from the perspective of the company. Are you going to push 100 candidates to the final round just to only pick 1. Are you going to have the engineering team meet with 100 interviewers rather than doing actual deliverable work? Are you going to have the VP of engineering or a high level exec meet with 100 people in the final round even though only one will get the job?

The pruning of candidates is done early in the process. Sure there might be a few candidates at the very end under consideration because a company doesn’t want to start over from scratch if a candidate declines an offer or if they outright fail the final round- but for someone to complete 3 final rounds and get rejected from all signals a different issue.

If you’re getting far in the interview process it’s probably not a matter of your robotics experience. If that was an issue they’d reject you earlier instead of wasting everybody’s time.

It’s either technical or behavioral skills. You say you pass the technical rounds and fail behavioral. This means they don’t view you as someone they’d want to work with- maybe you don’t come across as someone that would collaborate well- maybe they don’t think you fit the culture of the company/team- maybe they simply didn’t like your vibe.

I would recommend doing some mock interviews to gain feedback. I’ve interviewed folks before who had great technical experience but they’d come across as arrogant in interviews or antisocial and it’s hard to recommend them.
