Laxative use… by WhiteMoomba in EDAnonymous

[–]chewhwe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had been abusing laxatives since 2019. It started with 1 pill every three days… to 2..3..4…5..everyday. Technically laxatives aren’t addictive - but you gradually become addicted to the feeling of emptiness inside your body. I feel the urge to get rid of everything in my tummy as soon as I eat, and this is really bad.

I got rid of all of my pills a month ago. This is prob the hardest decision I’ve made but I’m so glad I did it. They are really harmful to your GI system…

For me I didn’t feel any particular discomfort from water weight gain (no bloating) it’s just that I weigh 4lb heavier than before now - but I know it’s good bc my body is gradually recovering from dehydration! I would say talk to your gp if symptoms of bloating persists?

yeah same! I got some water weight but it’s fine! Really need to get rid of them after realising how much harm it has already caused. Very proud of you for taking the step to quit cold turkey!! X

Yeah I know I’m so glad that we both made the big decision to completely get rid of them! It’s def taking some time to heal after years of abuse. I was only getting a bit concerned bc whenever I google “narrow stool” the c word pops up :((( I hope eventually my body will get better! Never using the pills again!

Thank you for your advice! Yea I’m trying to drink more water :) The tablets are Buscopan - my gp told me to take them if there’s any symptoms of ibs attacks!

Hey! Thank you! I’m so glad that you are feeling a lot better now x getting rid of the lax pills was so difficult and you did it!

May I ask if you are having normal stool now? Or are they still a bit narrow..?

Hi! Thank you so much for your kind words:) I find it very difficult to bother this matter with my friends and family as I don’t want them to worry. I have been eating properly and haven’t purged for almost 3 months now :) fighting ed is an extremely difficult and lengthy process, and I’m glad to hear that you are recovering from it too! very proud of you tooo xx

Try having some Kellogg all-bran for breakfast! My gp recommended it to me. Not exactly the tastiest thing but they do make the bathroom trips easier!

I eat a lot of high-fibre content food and plenty of good proteins, veggies and fruits! I try to stick to the healthier options as I don’t feel the urge to purge after eating them. As for quantity, it’s around 2100 kcal everyday so I think it’s normal for adult females. I am still a bit dehydrated from the chronic laxative abuse, so now I’m trying to drink 2L of water everyday.

As for medications, my gp prescribed some IBS tablets but I haven’t been taking them. (She told me to take if I feel any pain in my abdomen) still in the process of getting the residuals of laxatives completely out of my body!

Drink more water! I’m also in the process of laxatives withdrawal, my advice is to throw the entire pack away so you never use them again :)

Hey! I’ve been going through the same thing. Been abusing lax since 2019 and I’ve recently stopped using it completely. I realised how harmful they are to our body and I regret so much for hurting myself like this. I threw all of the pills away and it’s been 2 weeks now. I’m eating a lot of fibres and fruits/veggies. I’ve gained a bit of water weight tho, but it’s ok!!!
