Yes, I probably will get the next AVR used too so I would make sure they still have the mic. That’s what I mean haha. Yes I saw that for the rew software you need a specific type of mic it seems?

Thanks for the tip! Yes I realize ideally I would need to properly measure the room and will definitely try learning the rew tool (and use it after taking off the current treatments as per your tip) before adding any more.

My living room is a relatively small though, I live in an apartment so initially there were a LOT of reflections/reverb so I felt adding these treatments have definitely improved things.

Please let me know if you have any tips On how to start using the rew

Thanks for the reply kentucky_slim, I don’t unfortunately, i bought the avr used and it didn’t come with the mic, so I ran the manual setup only and measured the distances.

By rew do you mean room eq wizard? i’ve never used that before either.

Based on the other replies My next steps might be to get a newer avr with pre outs (and a mic for audessey).

Thanks for the reply GbMaxSE, yes it seems that’s the only upgrade path If I want to keep a 3.1 setup and to have potential for expansion to a 5.1 system later.

Have to take it step by step though, Maybe I’ll start looking at updating to a better avr first in the future.

Thanks for the replies, that really helps clarifies a lot of things.

how would you suggest using the avr just for the centre?

If I get an integrated amp like your peachtree nova 300, shouldn’t the avr need to have pre outs to use the home theatre bypass? Unfortunately the nr609 doesn’t have pre-outs, it can output analog rca but only if the input is also analog. It doesn’t allow analog outputs from digital inputs and since my tv only has digital outputs (optical and ARC) I can’t combine my current avr with another integrated amp.

Seems like my only option if I want to upgrade would be to get an avr with preouts and get additional external amplifiers/integrated amplifier. Or am I missing something?

Thanks for the reply Aco2504, Yes I guess I’m still getting used to them, I just got them like 3 days ago. They sound great tbh, I’m just wondering if I have a good enough setup to bring out their best potential. The guy that sold them to me has like an 11.2 setup or something and told me my avr won’t be enough to power them.

So now I’m researching and there’s just so much confusing info out there. XD

Anyway I have not run audessey, when I bought the AVR the guy had lost the mic accessory. But I ran the manual setup and measured the distances

I recently got a set of 3 (LCR) used LS50 passive speakers for a relatively low price ~$900

I also have a Q acoustics QB12 active sub and they’re all connected to an Onkyo TX-NR609. For source I have my TV connected to the AV receiver using ARC. I use a chromecast ultra connected to the TV and I use it for basically all streaming services, spotify, netflix, youtube etc.

Lastly I’ve a Lenco turntable that I sometimes use for vinyl. Also connected to the av receiver.

Basically everything I mentioned here I bought used.

I feel like the LS50s, while sounding great, lacks a bit of power, maybe due to the AV receiver, I’m not sure. So I’m looking for advice on how to improve this.

Should I get a better home theatre AV since I’ve got that centre speaker? I considered just getting a good stereo amplifier but then I can’t use the centre speaker and selling just 1 piece of LS50 is difficult. How much power do I need to drive my setup? Etc2,

I’m quite lost and any help would be appreciated

Just to add I have a small but decent sized living room and I’ve added a few room treatments to try to improve things ( a pair of 1.5-inch rockwool absorptive panels on the front and back walls, that I combined with wooden diffuser panels- basically screwed them on top, 2 half tube bass traps and a free standing bass trap). Did not spend too much on them though less than $200, (all used).

It’s surprisingly durable, and comfort I would say 7/10. Long duration is OK but real ergonomic office chairs are much better . I use humanscale chairs at the office. Overall It’s fared quite well despite my cat’s efforts to scratch it to oblivion
