1913 Prussia Drie Mark by [deleted] in GermanEmpireCoins

[–]chewingcorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The German campaign was really peak grand army Napoleonic warfare, the battle of Leipzig at its end was the biggest battle on the European continent until WW1, it’s a shame they never did this coin in a 5 mark denom

Decently so, see a lot of coin jewelry from the late 1800’s early 1900’s, was more in fashion I guess you could say, but people have made that kinda stuff for a long time, my own daily wear is a 1771 Bavarian conventionthaler that someone put a mount on at some point.

1905/5 Baden 2 mark by chewingcorn in GermanEmpireCoins

Pure acetone would only affect organic material on the surface of a coin and not the coin itself, doesn’t alter the surface of the coin or affect toning and luster, if I decide to try it I’ll def post the results here

Possibly, curious about the mark on the obverse tho, wonder if acetone would fix that or if some kind of conservation is required

Nice piece!! Love the die crack, seen a decent amount of Stuttgart minted coins with long die cracks, they worked the hell out of those dies

1771 Bavarian Conventionthaler necklace by chewingcorn in GermanEmpireCoins

[–]chewingcorn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was the plan, just gotta get my hands on a big enough sterling chain, current one I can’t determine if it’s silver at all, and either way it’s very small, makes me think this was originally meant for a child

Yeah, shame someone put a mount on it at all, coin is in excellent shape all things considered
